Princess Cake - Please help THANKS

Options
Hi all, my little girl is turning 4 in two weeks. This year she is having a princess party. I don't have a recipe for a princess cake. Last year she had under the sea and I made her a mermaid. She turned out being very colourful with curly permed hair : ). I was lucky to be able to borrow a tin for this. This time around I don't have a tin for a princess cake. Does anyone have a recipe that is simple? or an idea on how I go about making this cake. Do I attempt a castle? I have been around town looking for small princess figurines to put on the cake and haven't managed to find any. I did see a princess cake in ASDA today which was pink and had buttercream icing, it costs £9 but wouldn't feed everybody.

Please help. Thanks as always.

  • Hi

Someone posted recently about a dolly cake, could you adapt this, and decorate her like a princess?

    Here's the thread...

Could you do something like this? (Round cakes with a Barbie stuck through the middle and then iced??)

I had cakes like these when I was a little girl - your daughter would have the Barbie as an extra present!!

brazilianwax, that cake is beautiful. What icing was used? Was it baked in pyrex bowl to get the rounded shape? I'm not sure that my cake would look as good as that but decoration wise do you think pink flowers, silver balls etc would look nice on the skirt bit? how do you cover the bit sticking out the cake?

Oh bless you!!! I yoinked the pic off Google!!! :o

If I was making it, I'd just bake round madeira sponges, sandwich together with buttercream and jam, cut a hole in the middle for the doll and then 'carve' the skirt shape.

Colour some ready to roll icing and mould it around the doll and sponge IYSWIM.

I'm sure you could make any kind of dress like that. Google images has loads of pics like this!

    Good luck!!

Bettyboop I think your DD would love the doll cake suggested by brazilianwax. They don't feed many people (have made several for nieces and great-nieces!!) but the beauty is you can just make another square or round cake from the same ingredients and cut that into portions. Nobody needs to know which cake their portion came from:rotfl:

I've used silver balls etc for decoration ( just make sure they're fresh, one lot you could have broken your teeth on:eek: ) I've always used pudding basins for the sponge, but it'd work by doing sandwich tins as well.:D

    Good luck!

Where I used to work we had 'Dummy Cakes' they blew the candles out on them, but another cake was chopped up for gift bags (we did it before the guests arrived) noone ever guessed/knew. Like Churchmouse suggested you can always make an extra for 'everyone' :)

I love the doll cake idea, wonder if an Action Man would work, darn I don't have a girl!
One day I might be more organised...........
