Isn't there an actual electric car thread on this forum for posting things EV rated?

Possibly interesting. The Guardian has pretty much declared war on the climate crisis now, and is going to try to 'educate' the US who are still heavily in denial thanks to the anti-AGW FF campaign.

More politics perhaps than energy news, but I remain convinced that if the US ignorance domino falls, then we should see a worldwide uptick in the understanding of just how serious the climate crisis is, and that'll mean lots more RE. GGGgggrrrrreat!

Why the climate crisis is the most crucial story we cover in America
The US media has, in some cases, a lot of ground to make up. As Mark Hertsgaard and Kyle Pope have noted, US news organizations fell for the fossil industry’s PR playbook in the 80s, 90s and into the 00s when they successfully repositioned “global warming as theory, not fact”. In his recent book Falter, Bill McKibben calls this “the most consequential cover-up in human history”.

Big money and Washington lobbying have negatively influenced policy debates in the US – and the way in which climate has been reported is one of the most egregious examples of that influence.

We need loud voices raised against falsehoods, special interests and the corrosive impact of big money.

Correct. In fact no energy news at all. Just a campaign announcement from The Guardian.

We need loud voices raised against falsehoods, special interests and the corrosive impact of big money.

    So much for unbiased reporting.

But a big tick for honest reporting, even if you dislike/deny the facts. And had you not edited down my sentence, it would relate to energy news.

The removal of the anti-AGW lies and misinformation, will raise awareness of the seriousness of the climate crisis, and specifically the need to act sooner, and go bigger.

All of that opens the door to more RE being rolled out, more RE means lower costs, lower costs means more RE, sooner and bigger, and so on.

So whilst I entirely understand your position regarding raising awareness, and spreading the truth, and appreciate the hard work you've been doing now for many months to combat it, this is a green and ethical thread, on a green and ethical board, and therefore I think spreading the truth about AGW, and good news about RE go hand in hand.

Stories seem to come in bursts, and lately there have been a lot about mining operations embracing RE generation to save on costs ..... so here's yet another:

Fortescue sets sights on the sun to power Pilbara operations
Fortescue Metals Group plans to use solar power for up to 100 per cent of its daytime energy requirements at the Chichester Hub iron ore operation in the Pilbara, Western Australia.

Alinta Energy has signed an agreement with Fortescue for the Chichester Solar Gas Hybrid renewables project, which will supply energy to the Christmas Creek and Cloudbreak mines at the hub.

The project will involve the construction of a 60 megawatt solar photovoltaic generation facility at the Chichester Hub.

A 60-kilometre transmission line linking the Christmas Creek and Cloudbreak mining operations with Alinta’s Newman gas-fired power station and a 35 megawatt battery facility will also be constructed by mid 2021.
“This landmark project is a first on this scale for the Pilbara and will reduce carbon emissions from stationary generation by around 40 per cent at Fortescue’s Christmas Creek and Cloudbreak mining operations, while driving long-term sustainable cost reductions to maintain Fortescue’s global cost leadership position,” Gaines said.

BTW - Yes, you are allowed to chuckle at the somewhat meaningless statement - "plans to use solar power for up to 100 per cent of its daytime energy requirements" :D

Well, there's battery storage in varous scales around the world but this one proposed in Australia is quite something.

    Martyn et al,
If you havent watched that youtube clip I posted on the argument thread then have a look, even the first 20 mins will show why the guardian are peeing into the wind in the US. For it to happen in the US it needs to come from Fox News and the Christian broadcasting network and thats unfortunately never going to happen.
Ive made anecdotal comments about my journey this summer through red states in the US in other threads but most dont care or are in denial or just dont see it as a problem.

Standing talking to a georgia peach farmer whose crop was wiped out by frosts in late april when standing in an area still under FEMA management from earlier floods, or talking to indiana farmers standing in flooded fields in July its really difficult to understand why they dont see whats happening around them.
Talking to families who are complaining about their air con bills having increased dramatically during summer over the last 5-8 years and yet not installing solar panels or talking to the air con installer who has never been busier installing newer higher output equipment... Most people dont join the dots...

As we have seen in recent discussions people tend to take a technical term and apply it to their own understanding without having the background or understanding that it can apply in a multitude of scenarios or applications. So try to explain that 'global warming' was to blame for the frost in georgia in april and they dont understand and I dont blame them.
Talking to saskatchewan farmers on holiday in Louisville when they should be out tending their crops but cant because for the umpteenth time in 10 years their fields are flooded, they get it because Canada is more 'liberal'. But having sat in a pizza restaurant in summer in nashville with a saskatchewan farmer controlling his combines remotely by gps on his ipad they dont get the connection. They know but most people are only concerned with things in their sphere.

Apologies in advance for being off topic and possibly offending people with the next comments but reminds me of the old devout christian joke...
A man notices flood waters coming up to his doorstep so he starts moving his furniture upstairs. As it gets level with the downstairs window police go by in a 4x4 and shout for him to get in. He replies back, 'Its ok Jesus will save me'
Later as the flood waters reach the window in the upper floor he looks out to see the fire brigade floating past in a boat and they shout for him to get in. 'Its ok Jesus will save me'.
As hes clutching to the chimney pots and the water is up to his neck a helicopter comes past and drops a rope and the crew shout for him to grab it. 'Its ok Jesus will save me', he replies.
    He drowns.

Being a good christian man he stands at the pearly gates and is met by Jesus. 'Lord' he says, 'I believed in you all my life and prayed to you in my hour of need and you failed me'
'Failed you? I did send a 4x4, boat and helicopter'

And yet USA agriculture production is as high as it's ever been
The USA people are as rich as they have ever been
The USA has more homes than it ever has had
They don't worry because their lives all things considered are pretty dam good

Claimitchange is a minor problem for humanity not a major problem
Having said that it's the USA that will solve this problem with software

20 odd years ago I worked in data comms software. The movie 'Independence Day' had just come out.
(spoiler alert ;-)) I and my data comms software specialist colleagues sat one lunchtime huddled around a whiteboard discussing how will smith/jeff goldblum could have uploaded a virus to an alien computing system. After about an hour we had worked out a way we could do it.
Then a voice came from behind a nearby cubical 'arent you lot the guys who took 2 days earlier in the week to diagnose a broken RS232 cable?'

Yeah, software will fix it all.
