The problem, to my mind, is that in E&W you're finalising the F&F list at the wrong point entirely.
Offer made, offer accepted, etc. etc. THEN finalise what's included in the sale?
Surely the process should be to make the offer, and have the offer accepted, with a firm list of what's included and excluded in the sale?0 -
£450 for 2 sets of second hand curtains!!! Sounds like you have been robbed to me!
Makes me think......I have not saw sellers F&F list and we are supposed to be moving in next week!
I thought she was having a laugh at the price too at first (it was three sets, two for the living room) but then I priced up similar quality - as opposed to cheap ones off the rack - and it seemed like a reasonable price. To get ones as good we'd have had to have spent a lot more money (and time) to buy brand new made to measure, and they're tasteful and in excellent condition.
The seller bought this place in the early 90s and was otherwise very honest and straightforward, so I'm guessing it's just something she assumed most people still do. I had no idea either way, just vague memories of my parents discussing taking or not taking carpets back in the early 80s!!0 -

I can't imagine OP's toddler would be bothered in the slightest by a change in carpet, given they're moving to a brand new house!0

As I recall, it was very common to take the carpets with you when you moved when I was younger. The house we've just moved into had all the carpets left, wish she'd taken them, especially the one in the kitchen! In the kitchen, what was she thinking???? Can't wait to rip that hideous article out when we do the kitchen soon. And don't even ask about the one in the utility room!0

Now I'm wondering if we were naive! Our seller didn't include the two sets of living room and one set of dining room made to measure decent quality floor length curtains (and poles) on the F&F list, but offered to sell them to us instead.
We agreed (paid £450 which was her offer) as it seemed like a reasonable price given how much decent quality curtains seem to cost. But now from some of the posts here it sounds like she was just trying to make extra cash out of us? She'd have had no use for them where she was moving (downsizing to move in with her partner in his home) after all.
We moved in last month so it's a bit late now anyway!!
To the OP - if I was your buyer I'd totally understand and not mind, but then I have a toddler son myself who is very particular!
I'd always say call their bluff. It's likely this sort of thing may have been a purchase just to spruce the house up to sell and theyre trying to recover costs.
As you said, its likely theyd have no use for them in a new house. If they really want to sell them, they can gumtree them themselves.0 -
I am leaving all carpets, curtains, lampshades as they won't fit the new house and new house new stuff!0

In the old days it used to be quite a major selling point if carpets were to remain. But nowadays it is quite normal, if not expected.
With the benefit of hindsight you should have made the situation clear. How about taking up the carpet and varnishing the floorboards in the same style as the rest of the house?Been away for a while.0 -

It would be totally your decision whether you want to be in a back and forth renegotiation with the buyers over carpet. Saying this we are replacing carpets in the house we are purchasing, the only decent carpet (looks fairly new) is smallest room, however we've decided to do it all in a oner so it all matches. So you can mention it, as the buyers may not be too bothered.0
