If it was just a random mistake by them how would they have married up your details to his? I think there is more to this than you know. Either he used your account details, corp discount number, or priority rewards number or in some other way he limked the booking to you.

We had a similar thing with BUPA but it was a case of a mistyped number from a strangers account.

You may have given your permission without realizing it.

Did you read the entire T&C's when you signed up to the website ?

Did your partner book using your login?

many factors at play which could mean that they are not at fault.

and just because you are not happy with something doesn't mean you need to get all legal, what kind of society we are becoming, people are far to eager to get lawyers etc involved in such minutia[/QUOTE

Partner called hotel, he didn't have access to the online account, and verbally gave his credit card numbers.

As for the legal route, far too many people walk away with the same reasoning, hence why some large companies continue to treat the consumer with appalling contempt.

PS, Apologies for the rants, its not personal :) ... just very very annoyed

Believe me when I say this, my partner would in no way use my bank details to book, he has a memory like a sieve! - they asked his address, so I would presume they had those details kept on file too!

So from what some are saying on here it is OK and legal for the company to take the money from someone else account but it is not right for the person to try and take a route to find out and be compensated for the grief that could have been caused both between the partner and the bank if it incurred costs for any reason.
I hope OP that someone can point you in a direction that will sort this out for you. Companies like that should be taken to task

Why should anyone expect compensation for something that didn't happen, just something that could have happened?

I went to the dentist last week and the work went without a hitch but there is a possibility that the dentist may have made an error which lead to me losing a tooth.
Should I try to claim compo for the grief that could have happened?

If your partner lives at a separate address, booked exclusively by phone and used a card which is not connected to you then it would be statistically impossible for the booking to have been erroneously connected to you and charged to your account. He must have given them some information relating to you for them to have associated his booking with the details they held about you. Might this have been something regarding the event you were attending as you stated that there have been multiple bookings by members of your family for the same dates?

I agree, there must have been something that linked you, it simply cannot have been random. Think about it, how likely is that? What about names of other attendees? Did he link the booking to other bookings? OP, there is more to this than you have said.

But it did happen, the money was taken out of the OP account not the correct one. If we allow these companies to just take things incorrectly then put it back later it still was taken and the OP has every right to fight for the right not to have this happen

But that isn't what your earlier post stated was it?
That post was very specific and you said that that the OP should be "compensated for the grief that could have been caused"
As it stands, they haven't suffered any financial loss and they make no mention of suffering any grief, so what compensation is due?

An explanation as to how the mistake happened and an apology would be nice but there is no compo due.

I agree with the 2 posts above.

If I were the OP I would keep checking my account until the money is back in and then take the issue of taking money from an account not provided during the booking stage up with Holiday Inn.

BUT - before I did that I would make sure that my partner did not in any way provide details that linked his booking to my bank account.
