Holiday Inn taken money from my account without permission

Can anyone help please?

My partner booked a room for a Holiday Inn in June. He gave his credit card details over the phone and we received an email to confirm reservation.

Roll on 1 month later, I get my bank statement and the money has been taken from my account!! - certainly not authorised by myself, I never even made the booking! So they've clearly kept my bank details on their database!, possibly from the previous year when I booked a room on line.

Phone call to the Hotel, not even remotely interested!, but they took my phone number, received a call from the USA!, was given a case number and told someone would call me from local Hotel within 48 hours. No phone call received, have called my bank who have recalled the money, disgusted they could even do this without my knowledge, yet don't even have the decency to follow the calls up. Anyone know any legal route I can take please, Ombudsman?

Thank you in advance for any replies

What do you want from it all.

The ombudsman wll do nothing, because there is nothing for him to do.
You have got your money back but I agree, you are entitled to

    a. An explanation and
    b.an apology

    But that is all.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.

So they can just take money from my account without my permission and expect me to be ok with it?

You will get the money back via the bank. Then take it up with IHG and ask how it happened.

    I would do two things:

    1) check again that your partner didn't use your card for the booking.

    2) check that your partner will not be too upset when Holiday Inn cancel his booking when the funds have been withdrawn.

and therein lies the problem, entire family are stopping at Hotel, all would lose their money if they all decided to cancel, partner never used my card, we were 130 miles apart at the time the booking was made!.

disgusting service from a company I thought better of!

Your partner had obviously logged in with your account, so the chances are that this could be their error.

You may have given your permission without realizing it.

Did you read the entire T&C's when you signed up to the website ?

Did your partner book using your login?

many factors at play which could mean that they are not at fault.

and just because you are not happy with something doesn't mean you need to get all legal, what kind of society we are becoming, people are far to eager to get lawyers etc involved in such minutia

Nope, he called them, he doesn't have access to the on line account
