Its cheaper to get the room plus food plan, the apartment is not an option, I can't afford it.

However I still need to then add on the cost of providing lunches (hence my question what others do/eat at lunchtimes) - looking for cheap options :)

You are right about not wanting to end up paying twice for my son. I am hoping the food courts will offer the usual kids options of pizza / fish fingers / chicken nugguts and I am sure they will have chips :o

It has been a few years since we have been to Butlins, but for the dinning it was a help yourself buffet that you could mix and match items from different food areas and go up as often as you wanted, so my eldest who is a fussy eater always found something to eat (sometimes was unusual as it could be roast potatoes, fish fingers, pasta in sauce with cucumber). Breakfast might be cereal, hashbrowns and yoghurt for her. We were not hungry at lunchtime as had a big breakfast, so just had an early evening meal at about 4.30pm. I did see some other diners covertly pop fruit and waht looked like bread and butter wrapped in a napkin in their bags at breakfast, so maybe this was for their lunch?

Yes we could go off site. We don't normally as the things to do on site are free and we tend to make the most of this :)

Good point about drinks etc, I never buy drink there always take our own out and about with us. There is plenty of room in the apartments to store drinks and snacks, think its going to be a bit of a squeeze in a room only, I know how small the bedrooms are, and the room only bedrooms don't look to be much bigger than the ones in the apartments!

I had forgotten about the burger king that will do for a cheap lunch on one day. I don't really need lunch myself I can eat lots at breakfast but ds will need something.

Think I have persuaded myself to book up and give it a try. I will just book for 3 nights, I am sure we will be able to last that long lol.

what about looking at hiring a private caravan on butlins site, so you have a kitchen and more space. Normally many available on sites like e-bay

Thanks that's a good suggestion, I will look into it. For a family of four or more then I am sure it works out better value. However as there are only two of us and I will have to pay the same price to accommodate 6 in a caravan it might be more expensive but its certainly worth looking at.

We did half board in silver room accomodation at Bognor. As there were four of us, we had a small hall inside the front door and to the left was a bedroom with two single beds, built in wardrobe and bed side table, to the right was the shower room and toilet. At the end of the corridor was the double bedroom, which had a built in wardrobe, shelf opposite the bed with a mirror above it, kettle, cups, plus tea and coffee making items on the shelf. On the wall there was a tv. There was plenty of room under the counter for the small fridge we hired. It was like a small apartment just without a kitchen or sitting room. There was plenty of space and my children don't travel light as had to bring their night lamp from home, toys, swim rings, colouring items, games, books with us.

I just had a look on the site and you can do a tour of the accomodation and it was just like the silver room we stayed in.

Thanks susansc that's really helpful. I was thinking of asking my friends if any of them have an electric coolbox I could borrow. I think with that in the room and if I took the george foreman (for toasted sandwiches, heating sausage rolls etc) we would be able to make it work.

All food court meals are buffets. From memory of a few years back, breakfast runs until fairly late and the evening meal starts quite early, possibly 4:30pm. It's quite possible to not bother with a lunch, just eat a good sized breakfast and a good evening meal.
