eating at Bultins food courts

Looking at going to Bultlins in the holidays but I can't afford the apartments :(

Thinking of trying a room only option which works out cheaper.

I can get breakfasts and evening meals at the food courts which just leaves me to sort out lunch. After paying the price of the food courts I won't have much left over to buy lunches.

I am wondering what those that have taken out the dinning plans normally do at lunchtime? I could take some bread and cheese but looking at the size of the rooms I can't see a cupboard to store anything in. I will eat anything but have an extremely fussy eater for a son. It will cost a lot for him to eat in the food hall as I don't think he will like the options there but still think it will work out cheaper than us having to buy meals out on the site all the time.

It's easy to do the maths on Butlins website - is it cheaper for you to book the Room + a dining option, or to book an Apartment (which would have a kitchen) and self-cater?

There isn't much point paying for the dining option if you don't think your son will like the food - you'll end up paying twice, when he later complains that he's still hungry.

I wouldn't pay for those meals, they are ridiculously expensive. My choice would be to have some snacks for breakfast, with a drink in the rooms, and then eat out, buying exactly what you want when you want from the many food outlets on site.

Its cheaper to get the room plus food plan, the apartment is not an option, I can't afford it.

However I still need to then add on the cost of providing lunches (hence my question what others do/eat at lunchtimes) - looking for cheap options :)

You are right about not wanting to end up paying twice for my son. I am hoping the food courts will offer the usual kids options of pizza / fish fingers / chicken nugguts and I am sure they will have chips :o

We have been many times before (always had an apartment). I don't personally think there are very many options for eating on site that are reasonably priced, they only place we ever eat out when there before is the fish and chip shop and we can't go there every day! Good point about breakfast it would be easy to pack our own toaster.

They offer all that and more, it's self service but it's heaving madness seriously...... the restaurants on site do the same but avoid the scrum

OP, you'll find the other eateries (Burger King, Pizza Hut, Firehouse Chicken) are more expensive on site than normal - bit of a captive audience. Are you going to be staying on site all day, or heading into the local town? You may be able to find lunch quite cheaply off-camp.

For example, there's a pasty company that has a 'shop' at both Minehead & Skegness Butlins, they charge £3/£4 for a pasty. We found the same pasties on sale for £1 in Minehead town centre. And don't forget that supermarkets sell six packs of coke much cheaper than buying individual cans on site.

Exactly, if you can go off site it's all good, that's what I would do.

Just looked again and noticed there is an offer on when we were thinking of going the first child eats free and as there is only me and a child, he will eat 'free'.

Meaning that it will cost £18 per day for both of us breakfast and evening. I think it would cost at least that for an evening meal on site when you add in drinks and desserts.
