Exams are almost over aren't they? Could he leave early if the LL won't co-operate? Unfortunately, the LL is fulfilling his obligations.., its also not fair to expect the LL to repair a defunct boiler for less than 3 weeks of use. The repair will take another week. Is there no way your son can manage? By the time your son has managed to negotiate some kind of compromise, he'll be back home again.

Although if he's that in need of hot water, perhaps he's better off at home? I don't mean to be unsympathetic, but there's little he can practically do.

His course doesn't end until the end Of July.
He has done his exams, this is really now the start of the next year for him. He gets a break of about 5-6 weeks at the end of July.

I don't really understand why scaffolding is required or why floors have to be ripped up in order to install a new boiler. I had a boiler installed in a property a few years ago and neither scaffolding was used nor floorboards lifted.

What do you want the landlord to do? There's a problem with the boiler and he is getting it sorted. An owner-occupier would be working to similar timescales and as a tenant myself I would be happy with the timescales given by your son's landlord.

The alternative is for your son to live without a working boiler until the tenancy ends. Is that preferable? I take it he has a mixer shower with the hot water being heated by the boiler rather than an electric shower?

Scaffolding is required because he is in a second floor flat.

I would like the landlord to have just put the pump in as he was going to. If plans were going to be changed then the letting agent/landlord should have the decency to inform my son, not wait until we get involved.

As I said, no more replies are necessary.

The alternative is to put the pump in as already stated.

It's a public forum so people can keep replying if they choose just as you can choose not to read the replies.

It might not be cost effective for the landlord just to replace the pump. Sometimes it's easier and cheaper to install a new boiler depending on what's there already.

I think you're over-reacting a bit. The problem is getting fixed.

So he's done his exams. What is then keeping him at University until the end of July ?
I agre that it's a poor situation, but after exams, if I remember correctly, there's nowt for the vast majority of students. No further teaching. Nothing requiring him to have to stay there...

If he's ill then presumably he's not going into uni, so if I was him then I'd head home.

(Some courses do require you to stay after exams... I had a bunch of practical stuff to do after exams at the end of my first year doing automotive engineering; stripping and re-building an engine, making a composite honeycomb structure, etc... Not sure if it was compulsory or not though.)

mrginge. The OP clearly stated several posts ago that no further replies were required.

    Why are you still posting?
