Looks like customers are being given the right to cancel:

Vodafone price rises could push UK bills up 10% - http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-27523813

That would only apply if people have already been stupid enough to run up charges in the past by calling numbers outside their bundles. Where that is the case Vodafone will already have made silly money from them.

This is grounds for cancellation according to the link they provided to me in the text message, but it states this is only valid if you got the text:

We really hope you’ll decide to stay with us, but as these changes will increase your monthly bill by more than the Retail Price Index (RPI 0.9%), you’re entitled to end your agreement without charge. If you decide to do this, please write to us before 28 July 2015 at Vodafone Limited, The Connection, Newbury, Berkshire, RG14 2FN.

Interesting. The text I got quoted this link:

    http://www.vodafone.co.uk/pricingupdatepaym1

That link does not have the wording as per the quote above, so I wonder if that will allow me to get out of contract. They received my letter yesterday, so I am awaiting their response.

Interesting indeed, it looks like they have somehow calculated that it will affect the bill for certain customers (including me) above the RPI which now forces them to offer the contract termination.

Not sure how, as looking at the price increases, I don't really use any of those services and rarely call any of those numbers, my bill rarely has any out of tariff charges.

Hmmm... I wonder, does your contract give you unlimited voice minutes? Mine does, so I suppose that's how they're working this out.

I have definitely called 084 or 087 numbers before on my account...

The free 0800's have to be paid somehow :-)
Yes, they are paid for by the called party, as they are on giffgaff and as they were on T-Mobile and Orange before they started charging many years ago.
  • Hi Eagle, how did you get on with your letter? I got a similar link to the one you received and wondering if you were successful or not before I send a letter off to the,. Any help would be much appreciated.
