Employers Bank withholding salary payment

Options
My Employer's bank has, for the second time, withheld my salary payment. I don't bank with them, yet they are asking me to confirm my identity. They have given no reason for this. The faster payment transaction was made on Fri 31st, and as of today Wed 03/06 I still have not received the payment. Is this legal? How can I press them to make the payment? I have been with the same employer for over 8 years and my bank account details have not changed.

Complain to the paying bank about it and tell this is not on and that you want it sorted asap, If you have incurred any additional costs tell them about these to and make them aware you expect any loss to be covered.

You need to press your employer. You have no relationship with their bank. It is they who should be pursuing the matter.

What did you do last time?
I have been with the same employer for over 8 years and my bank account details have not changed.

Something has changed - your employer's relationship with his bank? The type of account he has? More stringent security/money laundering regulations being implemented?

At all events, you have worked for your salary and are entitled to it.

In your situation, I would contact your employer/payroll administrator by telephone and follow up in writing - request a written confirmation that the problem has been addressed and solved.

This all sounds strange. Banks typically require a sort code and account number to process a payment and that's it. If these do not match up payments are usually bounced back to the point of origin (i.e. your employer's account) with a message saying why.

In all my years I've never heard of a bank asking for confirmation of ID.

I would ask your employer to speak to the bank and query why this has happened, after all it's the employer that owes you the money, not the bank.
  • I too can't remember anyone ever reporting this either. People have been paid late, or not at all, but it was never caused by the paying bank wanting ID.

    As mentioned.
It is your employer who owes you money.
    Get in contact with them.

Are any other employees encountering this problem as well?
