art123_2 said:Looking for some help please. I only have my state pension for income, which is supplemented by interest on savings, and my wife receives the marriage allowance from me. This year 24/25 my state pension exceeds my personal allowance for the first time, due to the freezing of personal allowances, so for the first time I will have to pay tax on 11502- 11310 or £192. Can anyone please tell me if and how this affects the £5000 starter savings rate and £1000 personal savings allowance for 24/25. I am trying to maximise my income from savings interest up to the limit before starting to use my ISA allowance.
If you use all of your remaining savings starter rate band you will still be able to use the full £1,000 savings nil rate band (aka Personal Savings Allowance).0 -
I have been trying to input the details on the government site for my marriage tax allowance. I have been retired since June 2024 and my total income from my state pension and a small LG pension is £13,100 PA. My wife is istill working and her income is C£30,000. I put in the amounts and a red error message said "only put in numbers from 0-9" which I did. I doubvle checked and that is what I did, so I then trhought it didn't like the decimal point, so I removed that and it said I wasn't elligible, because I am earning above £50K. Has anyone else had any problems with it, or has Rachel from accounts had a go at it?0

Are you trying to apply for Marriage Allowance?
Or cancel an existing application?
Or something else?0 -
I had this and the tax code with the M and now after self assessment HMRC have sent me new tax letter are trying to revert me to the lower allowance rate and charge me for last year. They are not replying to messages and I cant seem to get through in the phone0

Hope someone can help? My mind is spinning trying to get my head around the wording on MATCF.
My mother (lower earner) has completed & signed parts 1, 2 & 3 on Marriage Allowance transfer (MATCF). Does my father need to sign section 4 as the higher earner? The form says, "If you are entitled to a refund, payments can be made to you or someone on your behalf - known as a nominee. Only complete this section if you want the refund to go to a nominee on your behalf." Is my father (higher earner) the nominee and does he need to fill in his address, postcode, signature and date?
Many thanks0 -
The person applying can never get a refund because of Marriage Allowance.
It is the recipient who benefits and could get a refund.0 -
Not the easiest of reads, is it?Leave Section 4 blank if this is just an arrangement between spouses.1

Not clear about this marriage allowance thing: So far I have "given" my husband a part of my personal allowance, 10% I think. I will probably start with a new part-time job in a few weeks' time. My job income will be around 11000 quid pa and I have another 2500 quid bank interest but no other income. My salary income will be below the full personal allowance and also below my currently reduced allowance. For the interest I can use the £1000 and £5000 savings rates, I think.
So I'm not paying any tax?
And if that's true can I still give hubby the 10% of my allowance? If not, I will probably have to tell HMRC and cancel?
Many thanks!
