Marriage Allowance

Whether you have worked or not really doesn't matter, it is your taxable income which counts. But if this minimal as a result of not working then you should be ok, maximum benefit for you both as a couple.0

Just a quick post to say thank you MSE. I saw your advice on here & got my wife to transfer her MA to me. It took all of a few minutes & as a result HMRC have increased my personal allowance code and so I will be getting 2 years of tax rebate which could be upto £500 and, going forward, more money in my pay cheque every month! So thank you soooooo much MSE! :j:beer::T:money:0

Marriage allowance advice needed please
I applied for this and received a letter saying a cheque has been sent to marriage allowance ltd ?.
This was on the 3rd of April 19, rang HMRC they say I ticked a box that sends it to this 3rd party by mistake and they don't no who just a PO box number. Can anyone point me in the right direction to get this back. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Where did they get the address of "marriage allowance ltd" from ? Just ticking the box to send to "a third party" wouldn't have directed it there because how would they know.
Did you correspond or enter into an agreement with this company ? If you didn't then it's not your problem tell HMRC to reissue the cheque. .0 -

Sounds like you've claimed via a "claim management" company rather than via HMRC.
Once the company take their cut, they should pass the remainder onto you.You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride0 -
This has happened to us too. I have no idea how I have gone through a third party as we applied through the HMRC website. This 3rd party company have taken £300 from our original cheque. I have written to them (conveniently there is no telephone number) asking for proof that they have the right to take our money. Im still awaiting a reply and in the process of writing a second letter. I'm also going to ring Trading Standards to see if they can help. The 'company' (thieving b******ds) are called 'Marriage Allowance Ltd and are based in Leicestershire.0

Did you call HMRC as advised? They would only pay out to the claim company if there was a deed of assignment sent to them. How would the claims company get your details to claim on your behalf if not from you?You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride0 -
Yes we rang HRMC and they said we must have gone through a 3rd party from their website?? I know for a fact that I would not have intentionally ticked for a 3rd party - why would I? HMRC also received £50 from my claim, through this 3rd party so all sounds a bit suspect to me.0

I'm sure they meant you must have gone through a third party through the third party's website, not from HMRC.
HMRC do not link to third party companies.
We have applied for Marriage Allowance and it's quite simple really,
just have to go to the government website www.gov.uk
Apply direct to HMRC, it's what we pay our taxes for.0 -

Now youre just making yourself look foolish. Its okay to make a mistake. The problem is when you refuse to acknowledge and concoct a load of baloney to try and avoid admitting it.
Whats more likely? That a select number of people didn't take the time to read fully what they were agreeing to and got suckered into clicking an advert? Or that the official government website decided to randomly redirect a select number of people to a specific claims company? You keep using that word.
