Most Oracle databases run on Linux servers and if you look carefully the armour says Oracle on it.
Childish I know, but it appeals to my sense of humour. My signature about the penguins stealing my sanity is an in joke and a reference to the years of my life spent wrestling with Linux and Oracle.
Strangely Douglas Adams must have had a similar idea back in 1998 in 'The Long Dark Teatime of the Soul' ...
"It was a couple of days before Kate Schechter became aware of any of these things, or indeed of anything at all in the outside world.
She passed the time quietly in a world of her own in which she was surrounded as far as the eye could see with old cabin trunks full of past memories in which she rummaged with great curiosity, and sometimes bewilderment. Or, at least, about a tenth of the cabin trunks were full of vivid, and often painful or uncomfortable memories of her past life; the other nine-tenths were full of penguins, which surprised her. Insofar as she recognised at all that she was dreaming, she realised that she must be exploring her own subconscious mind. She had heard it said that humans are supposed only to use about a tenth of their brains, and that no one was very clear what the other nine-tenths were for, but she had certainly never heard it suggested that they were used for storing penguins."0 -

So that's what's wrong with me.
Egad, I have penguins in my head, they're not just stealing my sanity, they're living in there!
No wonder I like fish! One by one the penguins are slowly stealing my sanity.0 -
If stuff gets done at all, I am pleased. I like the sink empty, the toilets clean, kitchen surfaces clean, clothes washed and dried, food in the cupboard, petrol in the car, the pets fed, the people fed. If these things get done when necessary, I am happy.

I agree entirely.
After a lifetime of routines, it's actually quite difficult to break them, but I am learning.
Generally, I'll do washing when there's a machine load, make sure each room is hoovered / floor washed / dusted / wiped once a week - but not on the same day each week - it depends on what else we might be doing.
I do meal planing - but it's not set in stone, and can be moved around.
I have a week to view diary, and jot down any things that I need to do during the week, for example, financial things - but these things can be done at any time during the week, and not at a set day or time.
I feel I have structure, but not routines.Early retired - 18th December 2014

I feel I have two personalities when it comes to organisation.
Sometimes I am mega organised, but then sometimes this other person takes over normally after an especially challenging work day
The only things I constantly stick to are meal planning and shopping. I am tight as a ducks wotsit with money and carefully monitor incomings and outgoings.
Other than that, the washing pile, I do try and keep it from spilling on the floorWith love, POSR

Pretty much like me with my lupus, then. Are you any good at pacing yourself? That's one thing I struggle with, I tend to go like a bull at a gate on "good" days, then spend the next week barely able to deal with my canine guests, let alone clean house or make interesting meals! With me, stuff gets done when I'm well enough to do it or when OH has time.
Shopping is always done Saturday morning, washing usually Saturday afternoon. Housework, as I say, gets done when I'm feeling up to it. Since I've been diagnosed with fibro routine is impossible
That's another thing that changes the game, too - I'm a host for a dog-sitting service, and I have to fit my own stuff round the needs of whatever dog I have staying at the time.:o
And my siggy line speaks for itself.;):DIf your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)0 -

I have longterm ill health too, and I'd say, like spirit, its the routines that hold things together. Of course some things get missed, ( like last summer when down stairs got vacuumed twice and only because I demanded others do it ) but because they are routine others can refer to the routine and those situations should not happen too often. The essential things ( animals fed and needs met etc, for example ) do at least get picked up, and when able I can step into the routine and do what I can of it.
E.g. Today is the day someone else is meant to vacuum down stairs ( I'm not meant to vacuum or lift heavy things) but they aren't here and the read in its today is because its done to tie in with me using a room for an activity. So I did it as well as my stuff.
ATM our routines are shifting a bit due to a change in dh's work schedule, and its taking a surprising effort to get used to despite being a less grinding schedule by far. We're hoping to get the kinks ironed out in the next couple of weeks. This week is a sort of beta testing for the plan. The idea should be that I get a scheduled day off on Mondays.0 -
I don't.How do you bring order and routine into your life?
No. I have a number of different meals that I regularly cook and keep a stock of the common ingredients (mushrooms, onions etc), then buy anything specific as needed. I bulk buy meat and freeze it in portions, then defrost what I need for a couple of days and buy any additional stuff that I need to complete the recipe.Do you have a weekly routine for meals so that you stick to budget?
No. I do it when it needs doing. Possibly two loads a week (one whites, one coloureds). on average. Two loads a day? Do you live in a mud hut? I can't wear enough clothes in a day to fill the washing machine once.:eek:Do you do, say, two loads of washing a day to keep it up to date?
When it's needed. This is subjective, so when I think it needs doing is not the same as when (for example) my mother would think it would need doing. I can't see dust, so I don't do dusting. This extends to my use of the vacuum cleaner, mop etc.How do you tackle your housework - daily, weekly, cleaner, never?
It's for other people. What about exercise?
No.Do you write down what you need to achieve by the end of the day?
