Living in an orderly fashion
Comments
-
I have experimented with both heavy routines (flylady style) and no routine. There is an in between. Some jobs do have their day - bed changed and bedroom cleaned on a Friday - big cook up on a Sunday to provide food for the first few days of the week ahead. I usually clean the bathrooms on Thursdays since we often have visitors over the weekend. Washing is as and when needed but at least one load over the weekend again to start the week with everything clean.. And I do have evening and night time routines of leaving the kitchen clean and leaving things ready for the next morning so I can get up and out in an orderly way rather than in a crazy panic. Other things are fitted around in between as suits,
For food shopping, I have an online shop once a week. I eat the same things for breakfast and lunch virtually every working day so that just leaves dinner to cope with. I also have some exercise classes which I view as largely unbreakable commitments. Having all of this routinised helps me manage my weight (more or less).
I read something once to the effect that routines should be enabling rather than stifling and this is what I aim for

Yes and it was my employer who paid for the children's education.
They didn't expect me to be able to travel at the drop of a hat leaving someone else to pick up the pieces without support so it was all part of the job package. One by one the penguins are slowly stealing my sanity.0 -

That's great, my father's employers were the same. My husband's last employers have moved his country the same day, with no plan for me and no end date....just after we sorted out the place for him to live in London..:rotfl:. They were very good in other ways though.0 -
I don't do anything by routine at home, I clean when it needs cleaning. The only thing I always do is clean the shower screen after using it because it irritates me if it's water marked. I do need to start meal planning though because we're spending far too much on food.
I'm different at work though, I have different jobs I do on set days and I don't like to swap them around in case I forget something.0 -

There's just 2 of us living here and I'd say the washing machine gets used most days.
1 x colours wash
1 x white/light-coloured clothing
1 x towels wash
1 x washing my bedding
1 x washing other person's bedding
1 x delicates wash (woollens, or anything that needs a 30 degree wash)
I can well imagine someone with a family of 4 could be using the machine twice a day.0 -
I have no choice about living to a 'routine' - OH is OCD about it! I am more laid back and don't fret if I clean the bathroom on Tuesday instead of Monday! or go shopping on a day that isn't Thursday at 4.30pm precisely.
I don't mind a bit of structure - just don't like being bound by it.0 -
We are a house of 4 and I use the wash twice a day- especially with muslins/bibs/toddler clothes! Swimming kits, uniforms, bedding, chef whites etc!
I put a wash on first thing and weather permitting put one on at lunch.
With regards OP, I make sure I hoover every day, and I am a big fan of a list! However, I do a lot at night when the children are in bed, so I can spend the day playing/going out/gardening with my toddler.
Like someone else noted, massive Sunday lunch which will then feed us for the next few days too.

Thinking about this, I don't have a set routine such as -do this on Monday, or that on Thursday, but I do have a sort of a meal plan going. I usually get the food in for the week by doing an online shop. Work out use by dates and write down a rough idea of what we're having when. Although it isn't gospel, and if we fancy something else a certain night, then use by dates permitting we'll have it.
I do like a certain degree of organisation, but I also believe that you shouldn't be ruled by it either.
As long as my bathroom, kitchen and living room/stairs are cleaned every day (if possible) then I'm happy.0
