Three annual price rises on the way!
Options
So my sister was looking at getting a Three contract and on the checkout page it now says the following ;
Price include £5 monthly discount for paying by a recurring method, such as direct debit. Each May, your Monthly Charge will increase by an amount up to the January RPI rate (published each February), unless you're on a SIM plan.
Wonder how this will affect existing customers?

Depends when you took out your contract and what T&C you signed up to. RPI rises have always been possible in older T&C its just now its clearer there WILL be a yearly rise not there MAYBE a rise as before.
No doubt as people upgrade/refresh/renew a contract they'll get the new terms applied.0 -
I noticed this on Friday whilst having a play with their site.
Looks like O2 has already started influencing Three, even before they bought them out. Charming...
I would really like to know how this will affect me as well. Got a very cheap SIM only deal with them that is my backup phone. Want to move it to the unlimited everything SIM but that's far off for me now...0 -

Not really, probably more related to the move Orange/TMobile made a few years ago.
Its always been in contracts that your monthly fee may rise by RPI, but not often enforced. Orange/TM did a few years ago and had a lot of negative feedback, resulting in some people getting out of contracts for free (See forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.php?t=4818999)
Rathen than saying contract may rise, most network now say they WILL rise, so removing the uncertainly. Tesco made a promise to never increase prices mid contract as a marketing statement, but I think all other networks simple put in to their T&C a yearly rise was always on the cards.0 -

three have been doing the RPI increase for years0 -
Duh. No they haven't which is the point of this thread.
duh yeah they have, they were the first to do it, even before orange done it.
I remember them doing it at least 5 years ago.
here's a thread from 2011 of them doing it, and they've made increases every year since.

And here's a post of mine from the end of 2011 where I mention them doing it a year earlier in 2010
and I quote
"just like three done last year..
One wonders why the MSE team has done an article about orange doing this.
Yet didn't bat an eyelid when three done a similar thing last year"

Their policy changed last year (Jan14), with them trumpeting for all to hear that they wouldn't be raising contract prices mid-term...and have now backtracked on this policy...
