This job I am hoping all goes well with, as today was first day of training for me, is 2 miles each way. Nothing too bad but I am struggling slightly due to the fact that its a 40min walk and it isn't too easy on my fibro. But am desperate for a job so it is what it is.

I work in Canary Wharf and the journey is about 30 miles away. The problem is I have to catch an overground to Stratford and then the tube to Canary Wharf. That's an hour which doesn't sound too bad until I factor in the half hour walk to the station. 3 hours travelling each day and at a cost of £350 a month. I am earning less now than I've earned in 10 years as well so the cost is affecting me.

I've worked in London all my life so the travelling time never bothered me but as I'm getting older, it's starting to grate. The cost winds me up more.

My current contract winds up in 2 months and although I know it'll be extended, I think I'm going to look local.

This sounds like the ideal Brompton-assisted london commute

Six and a half miles from Wolverhampton to Walsall.

Now I work nights, it takes a little over 50 minutes door to door by bus.

When I worked during the days, the variability drove me nuts.

The most direct bus route goes over Junction 10 of the M6.

The rest of the bus routes either don't run in the evening or take such a long route, that they take over an hour on a good day.

For years, Wolverhampton Bus Station was closed as they built a new station, reworked the traffic and generally slowed everything down.

One year, there were the bus station works which fouled up the ring road, there were gas works and water works going up the route to and out of Willenhall, motorway widening works at Jct. 10 and red route works leading from Jct. 10 to Walsall.

One memorable morning, it took two hours to make the journey as, on top of all the roadworks, STOP/GO boards and temporary traffic lights, the pork pie factory burnt itself down.

The ovens hadn't been cleaned properly before the timer set them going again.

We were stuck behind a fire engine in the middle of the road works.

It's a dreadful route during the day.
 Don't know what I'm doing, but doing it anyway...

Mines 782, the biggest delay is when the !!!!!!s look at you waiting to cross the road on the zebra crossing and carry on anyway
It's taken me years of experience to get this cynical
