I am currently travelling about 24 miles each way, which will increase by a whole mild when we move in the summer. Currently the journey takes me over 45 minutes, but hopefully when we have moved it will be closer to a 30 min commute (faster roads).

I think the shortest distance I have ever commuted was 6 miles each way.

The days of living near where you worked died out way longer than 10 years ago OP.

20 years ago I worked in the west end of London and a colleague commuted from Chesterfield.

About 70 miles each way to one office and 35 miles each way to the other! I also try to work from home one day a week as well.

Funnily enough until a new stretch of roadworks was added into the longer commute, it used to take the same amount of time to get to either one! Not because 70 miles was so good, but becauses 35 miles was so rubbish :(

I live 2.2 miles from my place of work. My previous job was six miles away but then the company relocated 26 miles away so I decided to look for a new job.

I won't lie, it's really nice being so close to work. I sometimes cycle and even walked a couple of weeks back. The only way I could ever justify a big commute is if the salary reflected it.

I've heard stories of people who live in the Midlands like me and commute to London and back each day. Hats off to them, they must only have a couple of hours at home before they have to go to bed and then do it all over again.

3 miles, 3 mins, unless a cow or sheep or cyclists is in front of me :)

Please tell me that's not on a 30mph road

About 2 miles each way - takes anything between 9 and 13 minutes each way depending mainly on wind direction.

    Cyclist :p

    450ish steps, (fitbit counting)!!!

Its great I can roll out of bed half an hour before shift, shower, dress, drag a brush though my hair and out the door and still make it into work 10 minutes early :D

My sister on the other hand has a 35 mile one way which takes about an hour sometimes even longer really couldn't be doing that kind of commute!!
Thanks to money saving tips and debt repayments/becoming debt free I have been able to work and travel for the last 4 years visiting 12 countries and working within 3 of them. Currently living and working in Canada

I work in Canary Wharf and the journey is about 30 miles away. The problem is I have to catch an overground to Stratford and then the tube to Canary Wharf. That's an hour which doesn't sound too bad until I factor in the half hour walk to the station. 3 hours travelling each day and at a cost of £350 a month. I am earning less now than I've earned in 10 years as well so the cost is affecting me.

I've worked in London all my life so the travelling time never bothered me but as I'm getting older, it's starting to grate. The cost winds me up more.

My current contract winds up in 2 months and although I know it'll be extended, I think I'm going to look local.

11.5 miles each way. wow, I never realised I travelled that far. I very rarely hit any traffic, so takes about 25 minutes.
