25/26, I'm trying to think, 33 now, it was November just before the crash. Not my ideal home, it was a rash choice and just wanted to get out, and picked the first house I cpuld afford, could sell but I'm lazy at stuff like this. Proud to say no help from Mammy and Daddy (it's the way I am).
What !!!!es me off more is though a mate of mine 33, still living at home, complains why I don't go out much, maybe it's because I'm living alone and pay all bills myself, there is no 50/50! (sorry for rant).0 -
I was 18 when I bought first property but times were very different. It was 2004 properties were dirt cheap, 5% mortgages were common place and rates were super low! I bought a 72k flat with a 6k deposit and my morgage company was I think 306 per month. Things are very different now!0

I was 18 back in 1984. We saved up a deposit of £2000 for a 2 bedroomed end of terrace costing £17000. We moved out 9 years later after it subsided! Apparently it's now worth about £125000.Pay off all your debts by Christmas 2025 no. 15 £0/69490

Completed on our house last month and I am 22.
This is only possible due to help from in laws, if we waited to save we would be priced out of our area quicker than we can save. (Woodley/Reading).
Our mortgage is only £50 more than our previous rent for a one bed house with no garden. We bought a 3 bed house.0 -
You can't compare what others did with what you're doing. They might be in couples, or getting some money from parents/other, or living in cheaper areas.
You're living your life, not theirs.0 -
26. £500 deposit (just over 3 weeks pay), 97% mortgage, single earner family, married with 3 yr old and 1 month old children. 3 bed semi less than 2 x my salary. Those were the days.0

I first bought a property with my ex at 24. Deposit was inheritance. When split up with ex, 2.5 years later when I was 26, I moved back with my parents.
For 2.5 years, I gave myself £150 a month for petrol, mobile and other things. Saved the rest. Got my property that I live in now aged 29.This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

I just wanted to not feel so on my own by asking what age are people buying these days? I am 30 have a 40k deposit and am thinking I should be buying now as opposed to living with the parents.....thoughts?
Save More?
No. You need to start your life!! You cant live in a bedroom all your life. 40k is a substantial sum. I was 26 when i left home, should have done it years earlier, rented for a year, then bought first home. Had no more than a couple of thousand for a deposit in 2004. But then, that was all you needed!0
