You've already been told it probably will effect the amount at least and been shown info to show it probably will (the amount anyway). Ask at your job centre appointment tomorrow

Where is the info that will show me the " amount anyway"??

    Thanks in advance.

Thanks for that. Do you know as I have an outstanding budgeting loan from a JSA claim ( owe around £250 for a max of £348 ) if this will affect me getting a Universal Credit Advance? I hope not.

    Cheers

    Kelly.
My feeling is that an outstanding Budgeting Loan shouldn't prevent a payment of a UC Advance from being made - the advance is being paid for a specific reason, to tide someone over until the first payment of UC is made - but I can't find anything that either confirms or contradicts this.

The maximum advance is 50% of the expected first payment and is repayable at quite a high monthly amount as the loan is normally repayable within three months though this can be extended to six months in exceptional circumstances. Presumably once the advance is repaid the DWP will then seek repayment of the Budgeting Loan.

The UC equivalent of a Budgeting Loan is a Budgeting Advance. This is where your outstanding Budgeting Loan will have a knock-on effect as you will not be able to get a BA until the BL is repaid.

Thanks for the reply.I do hope this is the case.As I currently have £0.05 in my bank account until Friday 26th June when the first UC payment SHOULD be issued.

    Cheers

The ironic thing about all this mess , is the 5 weeks waiting thing with £0 in bank account. At least JSA was at most a 2 weeks wait, and in my case I WOULD of done a rapid reclaim so wouldnt have any of the current 5 week delay issues at all.

I just need the advance for:

    Food ( 4 weeks worth )
    council tax
Transport costs to the job centre ( have to get train/bus )
    Utility bills.

    Thanks for replies in advance.

    Kelly.

Just in case you don't get the advance then:

    1. Council tax - telephone the council and inform them of your circumstances. They will allow you to pay later.

    2. Utility bills (am presuming not a meter) Telephone and ask if you are in credit. If you are, ask for the money to be transferred to your bank account asap. If you are not in credit, explain the situation and they will put a hold on things for you.
If you are on meters then ring your utility supplier and explain your situations - there is help available but they need to know.

    3. Travel costs and food.

Go to CAB/similar (ask the council who you need to see to get a referral) for a food parcel.

Offer your services as washer/ironer/cleaner/babysitter to friends/neighbours. Put an ad in the local paper. Dog walk/collect glasses in the pub/wait on tables. Walk through your local town and go in every restaurant/pub and offer your services. There is work out there but it takes a good deal of 'get up and go' to find it.

This problem is not uncommon/similar for people who start a job after coming off benefits and not being eligible for any financial support. They often have to wait 4 weeks before being paid. The advice is to ask for an advance. If the employer doesn't grant it then they are in the same position as you.

I often have to advise people in this situation. You have to be resourceful and think outside the box.

It may be that the bank would give you a small overdraft if you asked.

The advance has been refused ( pretty much as expected ). I am now going to go to my local supermarket and shoplift some food as I have been left no choice .I am fully aware of any prosecution which may result and will be fully honest and open with any Judge which presides over my case.

Go to a food bank. What was their reason for refusal?

Would begging not be a better option than stealing? Is there a church near you where you can talk to someone or the Salvation Army? Any neighbours you could ask for a cup of rice, pretend you have just run out of it, I've actually done that! Any friends you could drop in on around meal time who would suggest you stay and eat with them?
