Does anyone know, sign for items which have gone missing and just indicate the above message and record being handed to the post office and no further hops, Does this mean the item definitely did not progress further through the network or does it fail to show the intermediate steps when there is no record of delivery at the recipients end? e.g. Status "ACCEPTED AT POL"?

I assume this is signed for. It is not uncommon for this to not update and it may well have been delivered.

I would not contact the buyer an wait to see if they get in touch with you to say it has not arrived.

After a period of time you can contact RM to reclaim the extra you paid for a signature on arrival if that service was not provided.

Yes, it's signed for. What I'm asking is shouldn't there be more "hops" than just "ACCEPTED AT POL". Even if it's not fully tracked at every stage, is that it, as far as working out what's gone wrong?

Signed For has no 'hops' along the way. It is only scanned at a PO and then on delivery.

Signed For isn't tracked, the only entries to appear on the RM checker will be the first entry, ie where the item is scanned in and the last entry, the one you pay for, the signature on receipt. If it hasn't been signed for it will not update.

That's the issue with signed for- read the sticky thread. In many areas you don't even get the update to showing delivery- it just sits at 'progressing through system'.

I use it only for the additional insurance , I do not use it with any hope that it will protect me from an INR. Therfore I now only use it for items that fit the small parcel criteria that are under £50 in value but between 1-2 kg, for anything under 1KG I use MYhermes.

These items are very fragile and get broken with Hermes but not with Royal Mail after quite some testing. But the value is only around £20. I must admit, despite stories on this forum, this is the very first one I can recall which has signed for and hasn't been signed upon checking. The customer lives in a high risk dwelling (multi occupancy building).

I wouldn't worry until the buyer claims INR

They did, that's why I am bringing this subject up. I certainly wouldn't have time to sit here tracking parcels that haven't gone missing. Would be a really gripping way to spend a wet afternoon mind. ;)

In that case if you can waste a little more time on this do a search through the forum as there is an advanced tracking system that sometimes gives more information custardy and some of the others have posted it before. Even try phoning RM to see if they have any more info as they often know it has been delivered but not updated online. The difficulty is that even if RM confirm it has been delivered unless they will update the system you will lose the INR and RM will also refuse to pay out.

My only failed RM claims have been for the old recorded service and that's why I am always reluctant to use it.

Try phoning the local Delivery Office. Some of them keep their own records of Signed For deliveries passing through. It may even be sat at the DO and the postie didn't leave a calling card.
