Greece holiday advice

My OH has Greek / South African dual nationality, so he already has property and bank accounts in Greece, and has done for a few decades now. This will be our 3rd trip to Greece within the last 12mths.
The banking and financial system failed several years ago, it's only making the news lately because the time has come to start making the repayments on the bail out loans, hence the possibility of leaving the monetary system. The only advice I would give is, if you intend running up a large bill in a bar or restaurant, ask if they will accept your debit / credit card beforehand. If the answer is 'no', they will happily direct you to the nearest cash machine.
It's business as usual and as best as they can, and you probably won't get a more genuine welcome anywhere else in Europe.0 -
We are booked to go to Corfu and my parents are going to Kos. None of us have any worries.0

Thank you all! About £200-£250 per person. I was considering the algarve but greece has so many cheap deals. Am i right in suspecting their 5 star is about our 3/4 star equivalent? We will fly from Exeter/Bristol.
Thanks!I've just started entering the competitions (July 07). When I win I'll update this signature. Look on the bright side, I shouldn't have to update it very often.0 -

Thanks!
They used to say England was a nation of shopkeepers. Greece is a nation of inn keepers, and I far prefer the smaller places to stay over the bigger hotels when I'm there. I can't count the number of times I've stayed in a hotel with spa facilities (it's probably in the high double figures)...but I can count on one hand the number of times I've used them, so why pay for it?
In Greece, you can stay in a 2 star but receive 5 star service. It's a little thing called 'Filoxenia'0 -

I suggest you follow the link in richardw's post #6 and read the bad reviews.
The complaints are all about holidays being more expensive than originally displayed on their website.
You may think you're getting a 5* holiday for £200 - £250 pp but I doubt that will be the reality.
Check out hotel reviews on Tripadvisor before you book.
As for whether booking for Greece is OK at the moment, I've just come back from Western Crete and there is no sign of problems.0 -
There's an awful lot of poor souls currently sleeping and living wherever they can at the moment in Kos.
I guess the risk for holidaymakers is that they somehow spoil their enjoyment.Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..0 -
Just returned from Corfu on Friday and going back in seven weeks time. No reason whatever not to go to Greece, the only suggestion is to take cash.I was off to conquer the world but I got distracted by something sparkly
