Mis sold Apple iMac computer?

I doubt the laptop would have the right connections. You can usually connect a monitor so you can use the laptop with two screens. However, that doesn't work the other way round - using the laptop as a monitor for another PC that is.
OK, so to summarise:
-Unknown fault with the iMac (could be graphics but nothing confirmed)
-No serial number so Apple won't even look at it
-Refurbished model - do you know how old it was? Are we talking about a customer return so a few weeks old or was it older, say years?
-Some suspicious behaviour from the retailer - missing serial number, aggressive when they give you the wrong serial number, lying about being an Apple dealership
-You could even see the iMac - seems odd as you would expect for a refurbished model to be on display in store.
These could possibly be stolen, not saying the retailer was involved directly perhaps these were purchased from a dodgy source. Serial numbers scrapped off because they are worried about the iMacs being traced perhaps?
You can certainly report this to Trading Standards - however they don't investigate individual cases, so you are unlikely to see any resolution for your own situation.
Or maybe they are just ones they have bought legitimately but as they are not an authorised Apple seller they decide to scrape off the serial numbers as they knew they would be no warranty with them.
As said before it is looking like court action is going to be your route into getting the supplier to act. You should send a letter before action though - this may get you want you want before you even have to submit a case.
If you would like the iMac repaired have you considered taking it to another repair shop to get a quote - it is not just Apple themselves that can repair them. Ask an independent engineer to write a report on what the fault is, cause of the fault if know and how much it will cost to repair. You can then send this to the seller along with letter before action asking for them to reimburse you the cost of the report and repair.0 -

In the apple store they mentioned the possibility of it being stolen and so have a few other people. So im a bit wary about taking it somewhere else to be fixed.. To be honest I want rid of it.. Theres too many problems- including the fact that it's not even the right power adaptor for it. The adaptor is for a newer iMac... So they've told me theres the possibility of it short circuiting/ fire hazard as the connection in it isn't great.
so i'm at bit of a loss, I guess i'll now have to just threaten them with legal action then look into small claims. How ridiculous !! thank you for all your help.0 -
I suggest you look into small claims first, because you need to send a letter before action outlining both what you want from them and that you will proceed to small claims if they fail to refund.

Did you pay for the laptop by using a credit card?
If so, you should contact your card issuer and advise them of the problem and ask them to send you the relevant paperwork to enable you to start a "Section 75" claim.
This is S75 of the consumer credit act and it makes a credit supplier equally liable with the supplier of the goods for any breech of contract. There are a few conditions but provided the payment went straight to the seller then in your case you should be covered by the act.0 -
If a section 75 claim is not an option you should read this before writing a letter before action: http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/reclaim/small-claims-court?_ga=1.255761288.169215219.14203584110

OP, I wonder if it is Laptops Direct/Easy Computers as there are threads on MSE about poor service/laptops etc and if so there is an email address for the CEO listed that you might want to use.
