Not Impressed With Evans Halshaw
I bought a Zafira for my daughter from Evans Halshaw.
It was from their "runabout" range and cost £3,400.
It came with papers to confirm that it had undergone full pre-sales checks and carried a 30 day guarantee.
It is generally a good car but a few days after use we found that the bonnet would not open and the glove box would not close.
Rang them they agreed to resolve both issues under the guarantee and they booked it in to sort things out.
The bonnet problem was fixed but they told me that they would not pay for a new glove box lid as it would cost £78 and they would try to find one from a breaker's yard. They undertook to call me when they had sourced one.
Got a call to say that they couldn't find a used glove box lid and had decided that they would not be prepared to do anything more.
Not what I expected from such a large dealership.

Forgotten but not gone.

A few years ago I used to mystery shop car dealerships. This company never impressed me nor my colleagues.
However you could keep watching Ebay, I'm sure you will find a new lid, or a Zafira that is being scrapped for parts, eventually.0 -
EH have a particularly bad reputation.
Seeing as the bonnet couldn't be opened, I would guess the thing wasn't checked, serviced or MOT'd.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

I have to use them for serving on my company Mondeo tractor
It was only when I first took it in that I realised they were doing me a favour and I should be grateful to them for it.
Truly abysmal customer service, a far cry from the Toyota dealership that looked after the last oneChange is inevitable, except from a vending machine.0 -
When staff are treated like dirt and have unrealistic targets set on them by the usual fly by night middle managers (the ones that spend two years making themselves look great and then duck out just as it all starts to fall apart), is it any wonder the customer has to suffer?
But then they're not the only dealership chain to have issues, AC have an equally bad reputation.
The long and short of it is, whilst it's human nature to trust chatty and apparently friendly people, but 9 times in 10 they are sociopaths and car dealerships are full of them, because they sell sell sell and have no conscience.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

Seems they are dumbing it down because of the low cost and margin to them. Ebay is a good idea for a new lid however contractually I'm sure you can still reject the car as its not fit for purpose if you wanted.0

Not that it helps in this case, but in future you really need to try and open / close everything on the car before you agree to buy it, and make them fix everything before you hand over any money, when they are still interested. Once they have your money they've got less incentive to fix anything.
Even if you don't know what an engine looks like, open the bonnet and have a look that nothing is hanging off or covered in fluid.
As said, if the bonnet doesn't open, then they didn't service it.0 -
Sounds pretty poor. The price of the vehicle shouldn't denote a reduced level of aftercare - if they're judging the car as suitable to sell in their name (rather than kicking it out to auction) then they should stand by that and treat it the same as any other car they're selling.
Also it's a customer service own goal if you were buying for your daughter - any forward-thinking salesperson should've been bending over backwards to impress you in the hope that you'd be future customer for your own next vehicle.0 -
Now that the bonnet is opening, check the oil.

My neigbour had a zafira, 1.6 I think, could have been 1.8, for donkeys years, did starship mileages, but it burned oil like a BMW mini cooper. Ran out of oil twice, which didn't do it a lot of good
I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

Never seen that, must have been back in the days when you could start the car by flipping the hazard switch the wrong way around
