You can look at buying a Tesco PAYG mobile too as you can use your current O2 SIM in that.

I only mention it as Tesco have their Clubcard boost at the moment, so you can double up any clubcard vouchers you have towards your purchase.

You can look at buying a Tesco PAYG mobile

I have today been into Tesco and whilst I do not trust the judgment of the kiddy staff they said tesco do use O2 but you can not put I O2 sim in a tesco phone - it won't work.

This could of course just be a ploy to buy one of their packages

    They may well be correct.

Amongst other things, handsets can be locked to the physical network or the service provider.

If its locked to the physical network then an O2 SIM will work. If the handset is locked to the Service Provider then an O2 SIM won't work.

(People often don't realise there are many ways to lock a handset. It could be locked to a particular SIM or type of SIM , to a country, to a network or a service provider etc . Those of us with long memories will remember when Vodafone handsets were locked to either Pay as You Talk or Pay Monthly to stop people buying PAYT phones and putting their SIM in it)
  • Tesco are most likely correct that the phone is locked to their network.

They do, however sell unlocked (SIM free in their language) phones via Tesco Direct.

Also (except for iPhones) Carphone Warehouse phones are unlocked.
  • One other thing aardvaak.

The days of decent cameras in "feature phones" are gone.

If you buy a phone with physical buttons you may well find that the photos are worse than your current phone.

Look at one of the Nokia/Microsoft Windows phones if you want a good camera at a reasonable price.

If you have WiFi at home they are perfectly usable without mobile data.

Tesco uses the O2 network to make their phones work, so you can use a Tesco phone with an o2 sim without any problems at all.

    Incorrect!!

A Tesco locked phone will only work on Tesco.

That aside I bought a locked Tesco Moto G and now use it on o2. It cost less than £2 to unlock on ebay
