Nexus 4 - USB Port Not Working For Data

If initially all you want to do is install the update once you have it on your device can you not just flash it from recovery as it is an official update it won't matter what recovery you have on the device?
How? Like I said in my OP - idiot's guide neededDoes your computer recognise the device in recovery or fastboot modes?
The phone is not recognised (now) in any way, shape or form.0 -
Power off completely.
Press and hold Volume Up, Volume Down and Power buttons simultaneously.
Release the buttons when the Bootloader / Fastboot mode menu appears.
Press Volume Down or Up until the ‘start’ text changes to Recovery Mode.
Press Power to confirm that you wish to boot into Recovery“Time is intended to be spent, not saved” - Alfred Wainwright0 -
Yes. And then what? I get a sick android with No Command. If I press Power and Vol Up I get the system recovery menu. The available options are:
reboot system now
apply update from ADB
wipe data/factory reset
wipe cache partition
reboot to bootloader
power down
viewrecovery logs
(I have been here before ... my issue is I have no idea what to do next).0 -
On the phone go to settings-> storage -> more options -> USB connections - select media device (MTP)0

I don't have a nexus 4, I was hoping there was an install update in there. Looks like it can only be done via adb.
I am presuming you have these drivers installed? on your computer.
Also do you have adb on your computer? And what do you get if you type "adb devices" in to the command prompt.
Just to confirm you have done this.
Go to Settings->Device->Storage->Options->USB computer connection->Enable MTP“Time is intended to be spent, not saved” - Alfred Wainwright0 -
I've tried every combination of MTP, PTP, enabled/disabled USB debugging that is possible. The fundamental problem is that no computer will (now) recognise a data connection with my phone using any of 4 cables I have tried.
'adb' is not recognized as an internal or external command,
operable program or batch file.
I thought I had adb, but I may have removed it at some point during my investigation. I know I used USBDeview to remove any devices linked with adb, android and Google (per other links I've found by Googling).
As I said right at the start, in post #1, I had been successfully using Nexus Root Toolkit until this recent USB issue. I also tried to install the drivers suggested by NRT.
I'm willing to try that driver, but I have no confidence it'll actually work.0 -
It definitely sounds more driver problem to me.
This may be worth a go
Can you see the android device in your device manager?
Also I presume you have done this, but used different cable and diff usb sockets.“Time is intended to be spent, not saved” - Alfred Wainwright0 -
I'm 99.9% sure it's the phone. I tried the LG driver but no dice. The drivers in your latest link assume the device can already be seen.
I have tried 4 different cables and 2 different PCs (all USB ports) - no dice. Windows doesn't do anything (anymore). The USB ports themselves work fine.
The device does not appear in device manager - I have literally just tried again (on my work PC) with Device Manager open and set to also show hidden items. Nothing appears.
Anyone know how to reapply root without a USB connection? (Bootloader should still be unlocked).0 -

Well bod I can see you've indeed done all the obvious things so imo your only option now is to use a small oblong of plastic to sort this out...
