Vodafone Service Plan downgrade

HI All, After some advice
I recently got the iphone 6 on a 4g contract. I want to downgrade the service plan because I am not using anywhere near the dataplan I am paying for. I am being told by Vodafone that I cannot do this as I am under an agreement for the phone and the service plan. I don't feel as though this was explained to me when I took the contract on.
I have tried to contact Vodafone 3 or 4 times about this and all that happens is that you talk to one person and they say they are going to help and then put you on hold and you end up with a new agent...so frustrating because you have to start the conversation all over....I am not getting anywhere. I am at the point where I want to raise this as a missold contract but cannot get a complaint in the system
Has anyone been through this?

its standard on all their contracts from memory , there whole pricing structure for the "free" phone is based on the life of the contract at the original contract priceEx forum ambassador

the days where you could take out an expensive contract to enable you to get your new shiny 'toy' for free - then downgrade the contract part way through, are long gone.
You're stuck paying the same tariff now until the end of your minimum period.0 -
Thanks for replying all
I don't expect a free phone. A contract is split into two parts, the asset and the service.
I don't expect to get a downgrade on the asset as I need to pay for the phone but I do expect to be able to have variable options on the service.
Whether I asked if I could downgrade or not at the time of purchase I should have been told this was fixed for a term. That I don't feel I was explained to in detail.0 -
It's one contract and you agreed to its terms. What you "expect" is quite different from what you agreed to.0

The supplier does not have to explain anything-it's up to you to ask before you agree the contract. You can upgrade in minimum term, but not downgrade.
You agreed to 24 months at £x and that is what you will have to pay.
There was no mis-selling whatsoever. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -

Really? Since when? You have 1 contract, not 2 for separate components.
Your contract is for the phone service as a complete package. The phone itself will be classed as a 'gift', however as we all know, the tariff cost is loaded to compensate for the handset cost.
Sounds like you're clutching at straws to downgrade. And when people start to throw the miss-selling statement out, that usually reinforces this fact.0 -

If there was something you weren't sure about you should have asked, as you didn't ask you were not mis-sold.
If you had asked and were promised the ability to downgrade then that would be mis-sellingIt's not just about the money0 -
Ok thanks for your help0
