A cost effective mobile?
I use a Pay as you go phone and I suddenly realised that I was paying 14 pence a text.
I'm not mean but would prefer not to throw money away so I'm looking for a cost effective package primarily based on Texts. As I'm very hard of hearing I prefer not to talk on the telephone, I have no interest in sending and receiving Emails or surfing the Internet.
I looked on the O2 forum but there were so many options I found it confusing so can anyone offer a suggestion as to the best package on offer?

How many texts on average do you send each month?Who made hogs and dogs and frogs?

If you send more than 35 texts a month, you'd be better off with a BT SIM -- it's £5 a month (if you have BT Broadband) and gives you unlimited texts. If you use Quidco too, you'll get £20 cashback, making it effectively £3.33 a month over the year.
Or if you don't have BT Broadband, and send over 53 texts a month, Giffgaff have a SIM that gives you unlimited texts for £7.50 a month, with £4.50 cashback from Quidco.0 -
Texts are 2p PAYG at '3' and Delight Mobile .
'3' network requires a 3g-capable phone.

What about the payg 3 2 1 from three ?0

If your phone is locked to O2 then Tesco Mobile PAYG Lite would work:
8p per minute and 4p per text - not as cheap as 3 however. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
How many texts do I send a month depends on how chatty my youngest daughter is which would take it up to about 350 a month.
So, it looks as though I would be better off with a BT SIM at £5 a month. However, I do have BT Broadband which appears to give me unlimited texts but I don’t understand where using Quidco gets me £20 cashback, making it effectively £3.33 a month over the year.

I have a Doro PhoneEasy 612 and have no idea if it has a 3g network but that Web Page has some very low cost packages. http://mobilenetworkcomparison.org.uk/compare/.
I have a pay as you go but I don't know if its locked to O2. How can I check?0 -

Your Doro doesn't have 3g, but it will work on Delight Mobile.
If it was supplied by O2 then it's locked most likely. The only way to check this is to try it with another network sim (not tesco or giffgaff).

You can possibly unlock it cheaper in some other place.
The web page that I (and you) posted shows pure PAYG prices, not 'packages'.0 -

Do you need to send messages from a mobile network or can you use a computer and Wifi (or even a smartphone)? I use WhatsApp with my DD's - on a hand-me-down smartphone over WiFi only, as I use a GiffGaff SIM without any internet allowance. You can also install WhatsApp on a computer with internet access, doesn't need to be a mobile.
WhatsApp is free for a year and then 99 cents a year after that...I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the In My Home MoneySaving, Energy and Techie Stuff boards. Try

and see what it suggests.
There is a reasonable chance your Doro was sold unlocked.
If not ask your current network to unlock it.0
