Reclaiming JSA from NEA

Hi all,

I started a business 20 weeks ago selling cosmetics online. However, the business is not turning a profit therefore I am looking to close down my NEA payments and go back on JSA. .I checked my postcode and it now states my area is in a UC area.Being as though I have been off JSA for less than 26 weeks- I take it I can do a rapid reclaim? I submitted my claim online on Friday ( 22nd may ).Can anyone please advise me as of when the first payment of JSA will hit my bank account , as I have £0.46 in my bank account and am in urgent need.

I look forward to your replies.

Kelly.

It often takes time to turn an actual profit with a new business. Have you had any money coming in at all? Have you sought some advice in running the business at present? If you out the work in in the first place it would be a shame to give up so soon!
It can be difficult though, especially if selling mass produced/sold by various people items.

I can't help on the UC front though, give the job centre a call and find out.

My understanding is there is no provision if you meet the gateway conditions for UC for a rapid reclaim back onto JSA.

It would as I understand it need to be a claim of UC.

Thanks. So with the information I have given in my original post, when would you expect ( approx ) the first payment to hit my bank account??.

    Thanks again.

    My understanding is five weeks.

Short term advance may be relevant.

5 weeks??????? Even though I have reclaimed JSA on friday and its been less than 26 weeks therefore surely a rapid reclaim should be issued???

I am not confident of the Short term benefit advance being issued , as its like jumping through hoops I have been told, with the vast majority of claims being unsuccessful.

    Worried now.

Just because it would be more convenient for you to be able to rapidly reclaim JSA does not mean you can.

Not everyone in the UC pilot areas is entitled to claim UC. If you are not, then JSA is the correct benefit.
There are a number of 'gateway' conditions that have to be met.

As to 'hoops' - the hoops are more-or-less similar to what is being introduced on JSA.

I thought the law stipulated that if I have claimed JSA in the last 26 weeks then if I reclaim within this timeframe a " rapid reclaim" will be issued?

Also I have checked the gateway conditions for my area and it states that I have met all the qualifying criteria for UC to be issued.

    Confused and worried now.

Universal credit regulations have extensively modified existing benefits legislation with 'if you are entitled to UC, you are not entitled to this benefit' wording.

I have not checked in the specific case of rapid reclaim, but I would be astonished if it was possible to reclaim JSA in these circumstances.

Unless the process has changed since the pilot, any reclaim after two weeks will be treated as a new claim for UC. It makes sense, if not you'd have people on short term contracts returning to JSA ad finitum.

Are you claiming WTC? (I am not sure if the 4 week run on will apply if you cease to be self employed)
