The Conservative Government is doing that very well thanks...

To be fair, the SNP should be doing what minority parties do well: sit on select committees to hold the Government to account and look after the interests of their constituents.
They shouldn't think that winning a majority of a small part of the UK gives them any special powers or rights.0 -

Fascinating.
Back in 2010, in the first few days of his term, my MP brokered the historic deal between the LibDems and the Tories, leading to 5 years of stable coallition government in difficult times.
I'm sure the small stuff needs looking after too though eh?0 -

Yes, they should be, but they won't.
The SNP are to Westminster as UKIP are to the European Parliament.
In terms of both efficacy and gravitas, we could have just about elected the monster raving loony party to 56 seats and had the same amount of childish behaviour, grandstanding and embarrassment.“The great enemy of the truth is very often not the lie – deliberate, contrived, and dishonest – but the myth, persistent, persuasive, and unrealistic.

You're havering Hamish. And they weren't elected to go to Westminster and 'sit on select committees' meekly. Dear oh dear lol.
Last night the Tories broke the Vow/Smith Commission. The very first line of the Vow in fact.. stating that Holyrood would be made permanent. Then FFA was voted down twice, as well as the Scottish Govt having a say in the scrapping of the Human Rights Act.
They'll rush through EVEL without a blush though. And while FFA was never going to be offered, and the Human Rights Act and whether it is fully reserved or not is complicated legally... That the very first statement re Holyrood being made permanent was broken, for seemingly no real reason, means the Vow and Smith are no more as promised.
All going rather well really depending how you look at it. Not in Westminster of course, but this is exactly what was predicted would happen. The Vow and Smith a sham from start to finish. People just needed to see that for themselves.
Not you or I though. Because you're in that solid third of the Scottish voters who are solidly unionist. And I am in the opposite third. However, 50% of the scottish electorate DID vote for further powers in the General election a few weeks ago. For a party that stood explicitly on a platform saying Smith wasn't enough. You're in danger of overlooking who those 56 represent.Last week's Herald/TNS poll on Holyrood voting intentions was devastating. It suggested that 60% of Scots now intend to vote SNP in the Scottish Parliamentary elections next year, leaving Labour with precisely zero constituency seats in Holyrood.
Worse, it indicated that 80% of voters under 35 are now supporters of the SNP against only 6% for Labour. It all seems so stupid it makes me want to give up.
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid ?0
