I'm on the fence as in reality it was only 11 years ago.

Like I've said before. I hope that someone reads this thread who finds themselves in the same position as me and not feel they have to give up after one call to customer services or by negative comments posted.
I have never said ALL banks as I have no idea what other banks will or won't do unlike some people on here who are clearly armchair experts.0 -
Halifax branch can go back to 2012, (this is when the systems changed) before this you will need to contact Head office archive records, to get any other dates but the maximum records that are archived is six years so can go back to 2009.
I can assume this would be the case for all LBG banks as they use the same systems but cant comment on other banks but I would be surprised that there would be records kept from the beginning of account opening for every customer!! FCA rules only require statements and any documentations to be kept for six years, in the branch then they are destroyed securely... I would assume that this would be the same for online statements and head office records, otherwise where would the space come from for all the new account that are opened....
I have logged onto my internet banking and i can only see my statements going back to 2011, and my account was opened in 2005.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Banking & Borrowing, and Reduce Debt & Boost Income boards. I think the issue is you said at one point they can provide statements from account opening. If a customer has held an account with said bank for 40 odd years that's clearly not possible.Im an ex employee RBS GroupHowever Any Opinion Given On MSE Is Strictly My Own0 -
I was a young child 40 years ago. I was relaying what I was told regarding my account.
I could have got six years of statements from phoning, any further back needed an appointment with a branch advisor which I did. Somewhere along the line a mistake was made, hence the letter about the six year rule.
At the end of the day, I got all the information I required by post the following day, will now be able to prove my case in court. In fact, I doubt it will even get to court with the evidence Barclays have provided, so all in all I'm a happy bunny 0 -
