  • going back to my earlier Titanic analogy, I'm thinking I might put my dinner jacket on, find some mates who play the violin and viola and go and play outside a Northern Rock branch, while the "ship" goes down...

    Does anyone here play?

  • Martin was just talking on BBC and said funds up to £33,000 in deposit and saving accounts had protection but what about ISA's? I have the money in Northern Rock until my interest free credit period expires in March 2008 so I can't risk losing it.

Do ISA's get the same protection?
  • i would move any cash based investments for the reason that investors and savers are like sheep and will all start withdrawing money. if you end up staying with them you may get burnt when everyone else has made off with their money.

Yes - a cash ISA is considered 'deposit and saving accounts'

I listened to Martin, he made sense out of not to panic, the bit that made me smile is when he said, the people are taking their money out for the wrong reason, they shouldn't take it out because of the current situation because they are safe, they should take savings out because the rate is crap

Some of the comments made by the 'merchants of doom' in this thread are absolutely ridiculous over the top and just helping people to panic, if the BOE had refused to help NR then there might be room for some concern but the BOE are backing NR How on earth could people's money be any safer!

Only 90% of your money is safe up to that amount, after that 0% is safe.

So youd lose about 10% of your money.

Anyone who has kept shares in NR this year has been a fool, the news was so obviously coming and has been talked about to the nth degree, if you have lost money or not made as much as you should have then you only have urself to blame for not knowing the absolute basics of investing.
