What adapter are you using on the PC to connect to the internet. Also try loging in to the router and check the status page, that should tell you if you are connected or not.

I did that with the sky guy -it was all there.

it's a usb adapter -the one aldi just had last week for 10.99, but even if that was the problem, it should be working on my laptop right?

Is the wireless transmitter enabled on your router? There should be a radio beacon LED on to show that. Also check that the aerial is firmly screwed in.

If so, shouldn't it not have worked from the start? It was fine for a day and a half at least.

  • OK. Somebody thank me cos I can't thank myself it seems!!

I fixed it and here's how:

I uninstalled firefox. (this may or may not have helped)

I did a system restore to a time before I had installed firefox (this may or may not have helped)

I reset the router by holding down the hole under the power inlet for 30 secs (see previous)

and bingoo! I have wireless again. And I didn't even need to phone a friend!

Thanks to all those who replied. Cheers.
  • Now the only problem is the awfully slow wireless I am getting on my PC upstairs, its only 11mbps!!!

The USB adapter supplied by Aldi could be 802.11b (11mbps) instead of 802.11g (54mbps) - have you checked the description on the adapter?

Anyway 11mbps is still much faster than your internet connection speed.
