Old Adages: Money style!

A few have come up in threads recently and I wondered which old adages you were brought up that still ring inside your head and remind you of thrifty ways to behave

For example:
  • Waste not, want not
  • You can't make a silk purse out a sow's ear
  • Neither a borrower nor a lender be
  • Take care of the pennies and the pounds will take care of themselves
  • Money doesn't grow on trees
  • You can't take it with you when you die
  • Rather be skint than have nowt
  • A fool and his money are soon parted
  • What the eye doesn't see they heart doesn't grieve over
  • Money can't by happiness
  • All things come to those who wait
  • Never let your possessions, possess you!

A few I can remember are:

    Where there's a will there's a way.
When the going gets tough, watch the tough get going.
    Pride goes before a fall.
Don't get above your station in life.
Ifits. (In reply to what's for dinner: if its in the fridge/cupboard)

Oooh, you were *rich* - most of my childhood anyone asking what's for dinner got the standard reply: Bread & Pullit!!! I was sick and tired of Bread & Pullit by the age of 8yo! ;)
