your garage could not have been very secure, unless he actually picked the lock!

I think he was trying to be helpful , however his only mistake was not popping a card thu your letter box , saying "parcel in garage" ,

whenever a postie asks me to take a parcel for my neighbours , I simply say , stick a card thru there door , telling them its at No ,,,,

signing for items is a sackable offence

He shouldn't have done it then, should he?

I think that is wrong of the postman and you definitely need to complain.
Lost my soulmate so life is empty.

I can bear pain myself, he said softly, but I couldna bear yours. That would take more strength than I have -

I'd much rather he'd have stuck a card through the door asking me to collect the parcel from the local office, which coincidentally is a 5 minute walk or a minute in the car from my front door so not exactly a hardship in terms of collecting it from there.

How he's managed to get into the garage isn't really the point. He shouldn't have left it in there and worse still he certainly shouldn't have been signing for delivery on my behalf.

Unfortunately it is very, very common up and down the country. Not enough staff/time to adequately complete the rounds. I realise this is not an excuse but it is a fact.

I appreciate it happens but it really shouldn't.

Because he signed for it on my behalf without telling me and because he didn't tell me where the items were I ended up making a complaint to the company that sent the item that needed signing for. When I spoke to them earlier to let them know I'd found the item in question they said they were glad I'd found it but from the tone of voice I got the impression they thought I'd signed for it and was trying to get a freebie out of them.

The other items I've been refunded for because I made a complaint to them as well. Now I've got to call and sound like a plank on the phone and tell them that they need to take the money again because my postie thought he was helping instead of doing what he was supposed to do.

Of course you have every right to complain, and as mentioned he'll probably lose his job. And maybe next time you make a genuine mistake whilst trying to be helpful karma will do the same to you?

How is totally breeching Royal mail instructions and deliberately doing something that you shouldn't do in any way a mistake?
At the very least it's negligence and could well class as fraud if the postman actually entered the OP's name as having accepted the delivery.

Doesn't an alleged fraudster have to have shown an intent to make a gain, or at least deprive their victim of 'something'?

What one part of the actual legislation (Fraud act 2006) states is that fraud has occurred if a false representation has been made (which in this case would be a signature stating that someone in the house accepted the delivery) and that false representation caused a loss or exposed another person to the risk of a loss. (and as has already been shown, the company sending the goods were exposed to a possible loss as they had already refunded for the missing items).

It's resolved now! I collared the postie by chance as I was near my house this morning looking at a new job on company business and asked if he knew anything about it. First of all he said he didn't but after thinking about it he changed his mind and asked if I'd looked in the garage yet...why the hell I'd look in my LOCKED garage I don't know but anyway....he said my garage isn't too hard to break into and that he'd signed for the item himself....I went home, unlocked the garage and there infront of me were the parcels. All 3 of them neatly stacked!

Now I'm in a position where I've got to call the companies involved to let them know that I do actually have the items because because my postie is good at breaking into locked garages but not so good at remembering to tell people that he's done it! I'm not impressed he's signed on my behalf either so I'll be letting the post office know as that's really not on.

Why would you tell the Post Office?
