I've been offering free P&P for many years and state in my listings that I post out the next working day, but I actually post the same working day, so when they receive their item a day sooner than expected I get glowing feedback and DSR's.

I just don't buy from people with ranty chunks of text in their listings.

I tend to charge postage, plus 20p towards the cost of packing - I include the fees etc in my starting price, it's safer that way

Having inclusive p and P gives me one less thing to worry about.

    Absolutely!!

Having an 'all in' price taking in to account all costs and charges really is the way to go, especially as consumers are becoming more 'online purchase' friendly.

Exceeding expectations is always the way to go. When I was on Ebay I would include some post in the list price and charge less than the postage price, I occasionally got customers receiving items and asking to pay more for postage when they received it!
There's an art to selling well, give the customer the illusion that you are doing your best for them and they'll come back for more. Tell them they're an idiot and you'll never see them again. There isn't much else to it really. No matter how many people post on here that the customer knows the postage before hand and they have no right to complain, makes no difference to Joe or Jane Bloggs who want to complain.

It's also not always the post price they're complaining about even if they say they are. It might be that the envelope was torn, the parcel was a day late, it took too long to open or any number of other things that focus the attention on the one thing they can see.

  • So I replied to her first couple of messages stating why I left the feedback I did and that I wouldn't be responding to any further messages as I felt they were becoming increasingly personal. I've now had another ranty messagemail and was wondering if I block her will it stop any future messages? I'm not going to reply to her but don't really want to continue getting messages from her.

You still get messages from blocked people, well I do anyway
  • Can't keep up with all the changes/new rules but I know in the past you were not allowed to pass on fee charges to the buyer. If you stated this in your listing it was a breech of terms and conditions.

However, as stated I am not up to date with policy now, maybe someone who is could clarify.
Looking forward to the day I have nothing left to list on eBay

    Hi Guys,

Recently won an auction and thought the post was a bit high but the item was nice enough so I thought I would give the seller the benefit of the doubt before it arrived. When it arrived it did seem a bit on the high side compared to what the postage actually cost so I reflected this in my feedback. Just got a message from the seller stating that I have now ruined her DSRs and I am being really unfair to her as eBay now charge fees on the postage too so she adds in those fees when listing the postage costs. (Hope that makes sense)

What are other peoples thoughts on this? Personally I keep the postage charge to whatever it will cost me to post plus a few pence for the polybag. Any fees etc are reflected in the selling price of the items and I don't bump up the postage to reflect fees that way. I'm now wondering how other sellers handle this?

Personally I don't get how anyone can complain about p & p after agreeing to buy and not exactly sure why eBay include it in feedback ???

Because p & p charges are clearly visible before you agree to buy

Ergo if you think these are "too high" then don't agree to buy

"Too high/low" being subjective and defined by the action of agreeing to buy or not

It's like buying a fridge then complaining it was to expensive after you bought it

Is totally rubbish and I would like the opportunity to embaress an eBay spoke man on national TV with this

I'm fairly confident their intention is to stop people jacking up 0p&p instead of the price

But then eBay have total control over that in the way they show listing and could simply combine the two

You bought an item knowing how much it was costing before you purchased it, your choice, to ruin their stars for something you had complete control over is just petty.
Yea sure all you ebayers saying greedy this greedy that they got what they deserved need to get a bit perspective, you know what your paying, pay it or don't, don't buy it the moan after it.

P&P at any charge is fair. You saw how much the seller would charge you to package it and deliver it to you, you paid and they delivered. What it cost them from their supplier (Royal Mail) is irrelevant.

It just so happens that Tesco sell beans for more than they paid for them. Yet I bet you buy them without second thought.

    I absolutely agree
