Has anyone out there had any dealings with Alliance and Leicester?0

I have read through Martins advice re PPI reclaiming and he seems to say that if your policy was started in the last six years you can claim.
However on the THIS IS MONEY web site it states that claims are dependent on when you started the insurance policy. PPI only came under the jurisdiction of the FSA in January 2005, any sales made before then are not covered by FSA rules and cannot be referred to the Financial Obudsman.
This seems to contradict the advice here, dont know what to do now as my PPI policy was started in 2004, if I claim and get no response from the loan company-I am a toothless tiger then without the redress to the Financial Obudsman scheme0 -
Can anybody tell me if i can still claim PPI and credit card charges even if the account has been passed to a debt collecting agency?0

Hi you are absolutely correct - The FSA only starting regulating insurance sales in Jan 2005 therefore anything before that time would not fall within the ombudsmans jurisdiction..so it would be pointless referring your case to them as all they will do is write back and say sorry we cant help.0 -

Does anybody know if i have a chance with Barclays I paid PPI on a mortgate from 1985 to 1999. I was self employed and they knew this, they told us we had to have it, but refused to pay out when we ceased trading in 1999.0

Hi I'm hoping someone can help me with my query regarding PPI.
I watched Martin on the Tonight show and thought he was fantastic.
Basically though, it appears to me that the people who can claim this are either people who are self employed or took a loan when they were ill or unemployed.
I don't fall into any of those categories, however I have taken out loans/credit cards and have either paid them back early though consolidation or switched them.
Is there any sort of PPI i can claim for?
I'm thinking that maybe when I was paying back the sum early then a percentage of what I was paying was going towards insurance I never used.
Is this the case?
Cheers for any help0 -
I took out PPI on a loan with Abbey back in 2004. I have gone through the paperwork. I remember discussing the PPI with them on the phone and basically not wanting it especially the unemployment bit as we both work for the NHS and they very very rarely make people redundent but I did end up agreeing to have the accident and sickness part of the cover. Does anybody think it worthwhile to try and claim given that I did agree to part of the PPI.
Thanks for any help.

Can someone advise on First Plus and PPI please? We've had a refund on a loan from several years ago that First Plus notified us about. Apparently an audit revealed an incorrect payment and they contacted us to pay us the money back (nice surprise). We now have a new loan with them (taken out in 2005) and it has PPI on it that cost £14000 over the life of the loan - though it is only valid for 5 years. After 5 years we can claim the full cost back if we haven't claimed. If we cancel now they've said that the refund would be minimal.
I hadn't realised that the PPI was only for 5 years yet I'll be paying interest on the amount for substantially longer than that. Do I have a case and should I claim or do I leave it, wait another 2.5 years without a claim and get the £14K back?

Can I ask how long it appears to take for people to get back either an acceptance or denial reply. I have sent the first template letter to LTSB a fortnight ago and received a letter saying they are looking into it last weekend.0
