junie hi
I would advise that you keep the critical illness cover. This is good cover and pays out if you suffer heart attacks and stroke and similar illnesses. Usually this is a lump sum payment and would repay your entire loan.
payment protection or ASU pays your monthly payments but usually only for 12 months.
You might be far better off looking for Permanent health cover which continues usually until a chosen age, say 60 or 65. It is more expensive than ASU but would give far more cover for the money. Sadly your back troubles would still not be covered, probably. See your friendly IFA for advice.I am a former Broker, former IFA and former compliance officer, for my sins.

Hi my husband's been paying £25 a month PPI on his AMEX card for the last 6 years. He didn't know he was paying this but how do we prove that he didn't know so that we can reclaim? He probably wasn't eligible for it anyway as he's been made redundant twice in that time and is now self-employed. What are our chances of claiming it back?0

If your husband has been made redundent twice in that time you would have had two legitimate opportunties to claim on the cover.
I would think that you have an opportunity to claim for mis-sell if you did not know about the insurance.I am a former Broker, former IFA and former compliance officer, for my sins.

Hi, in 2001 just after my twins were born I had a loan from HSBC which is also my bank, At the time I was only contracted to work 10 hours a week at Sainsburys, at the time I was advised that I could not have PPI as I would not be covered in the terms and conditions as I only worked these number of hours, but she said they would get around it I was very unsure at the time but as I needed the money I went a long with it just checked my paperwork after visting your site and thinking should I should I not and I was charged for the PPI, the loan was increased a number of times and still the PPI was added, This loan was settled in 2005, do I have a claim to try and get the PPI back as I believe that if I had needed to claim I would not have stood a chance and I believed I was not paying it at the time, I gather they are not the best bank ti try and reclaim from and I am also worried because they are my bank where my wages get paid, so don't really want to rub them up the wrong way but also don't want them to get away with my hard earned cash.Claimed back almost £4000 so far from HSBC for mis-sold PPI
£2083.00 + £242.00 8% interest from FirstPlus and lower monthly premiums:D Studio Cards paid off my account and gave me £125.00 in gift vouchers. £500.00 Barclays.0 -

Go for it, it's your money and it sounds like it was definately mis-sold!{Signature removed by Forum Team}0 -
Just checked more paperwork and I could be sending letters all week, wouldn't it be nice if I won them all.Claimed back almost £4000 so far from HSBC for mis-sold PPI

I have just been to my bank today and asked them for the PPI that I was missold in March. I was told in March that in order to get my loan I would need PPI. I certainly did not want PPI as previosu experience taught me that its not worth the paper its written on. We ended up bankrupt over 6 years ago because of it.
However, hard sell was put on and I felt unable to argue the point at the time. As I needed the loan. Its only a small one of £1000. It was to consolodiate some messy high ineterest credit.
I have been ill the last three weeks. Signed off work. Under investigation for a dodgy brain...scan in a few weeks time. I went in today to see if the PPI was worth having. After a confusing discussion with the PPI provider I told them I wouldnt be making a claim. The terms for me to gain anything from it were unreal!
I would have to continuously ill for 30 days before making a claim....then I need to prove what I am ill with was not something I had at the time of getting the loan...thats still unknown for absolute and Im fairly sure they would find a way to not pay me anyway. So I said farewell and cancel the PPI. Also give me what I paid in already!
The money saved and refunded will be more help at this time!
The bank staff were ever so nice to me and are dealing with this as a complaint of misselling which they tell me is very serious!!
I dont think the fight is over yet but at least they arent fobbing me off.....(yet) I was pleasantly surprised. Will try to keep forum informed on this.
Also has anyone idea as to how far back I can claim? Over 7 years ago we were misold PPI and we ended up going bankrupt.
My hubby says whats going on is criminal....these big companies are commiting mass fraud on us little people....we need to all shout out and give them a big fright!! :rotfl:
Best of luck to you all!!0 -

Don't they say something like account cover, or insurance cover, I know some catalogue firms use these terms so assuming store cards do the same.Claimed back almost £4000 so far from HSBC for mis-sold PPI

Hi Martin
can you please tell me if i can claim personal loan protection plan charges that i took out with my loan? Is this the same principle as the PPI reclaiming? also i am on a debt recovery programme and a debt recovery company are now over seeing my loan through the HSBC where i took out the original loan? im confused as to where i stand, any help would be greatly appreciated. my loan was for £15000 but the PLPP adds another £3000 plus interest on top.
Kind regards
