Kathryn, I was just about to send off my claim to Capital ! for the same reason. Now you have me thinking, I don't want to quote self employment as the reason for my reclaim if there is no chance of a refund.
At the moment it seems all questions on here, nobody seems to have any answers!
yeah im still waiting to see if can claim on ppp / car credit...want to know if i can before i start all the work!0 -
Hiya. I'm looking for some guidance and also anyone with the same grievance. I originally took out a loan in 2005 with First Plus via Loans.Co.Uk. During 2006 I approached First Plus directly about topping up the loan we had with them. We took out a secured loan for £45k and thought that ppi would be a good idea for such a large amount. The 5 years and money back was explained and used as hard sell for their ppi. Our monthly payment, currently of approx £630, includes ppi payment. Decided to dig out my paper work earlier this year when ppi miselling hit the news. First Plus tell me I owe them £61k!! - £16k of ppi. They explained that they buy (!) the policy(Barclays Life, Dublin?) upfront and I'm paying them (FPlus) back. Said I could cancel but I would still owe them the money and my monthly payment would reduce by a tiny amount! Have i case for reclaim even though I don't have any intention to settle loan early. Can't believe they can add £16k of interest on top of the £45k payback - surely this in itself is a crime?! Ta.
I dont know if this helps but i had a loan with first plus and they charged me £2790 ppi. I payed the loan off within 12mths.
They basically told me that because i paid it off early that i wasnt entitled to a refund! Although if id let it go five years then i was???!!!
I sent the first letter and that the above was the reply but then i sent a second letter saying that the boxes i had to sign to get the loan were clearly marked in red on the form i had to fill in and urged them to look at it again. I subsequently had a letter back saying 'AS A GESTURE OF GOODWILL'. They would refund me another £1085.00 on top of the £792 they had already knocked off for early repayment?
I could go to the ombudsman but im not going to incase the ruling goes against me. The money they have offered is better than a kick in the teeth!!
So my advise is send another letter threatening them with the ombudsman and see what happens, like i say i paid my loan off early but it shouldn't make a difference.0 -
Some loan companies do cover for self-employed (paying correct calss of national insurance contributions), with certain conditions. For example, business must be round up and with insolvency practioner. Or sub-contractordoing own taxes
Please check your agreements/conditions first0 -

Just a quick question.
I've got a car loan with GE money and wondered if you can claim back what they call Credit Protection Insurance on a life and accidental death policy ?
Basically this was suggested as something we should have by the car salesman and is costing £39.00 odd per month.
Thx in advance0 -
I downloaded the letter and have put a claim in on the grounds I was not working when I took my loan out 3 years ago.
Fingers crossed.:dance:0 -
Hi!
I'm new to Martin's website attracted to it because of the recent PPI press as my sister has the misfortune of having a loan through the loan sharks otherwise known as FirstPlus. She was naive enough to be influenced by Ms Vorderman's connection.
When we (her family) discovered the size of her debt we were horrified especially when she had NOTHING to show for it, no wardrobe of designer clothes, no brand new car in the drive etc. Upon investigation it was clear that a considerable amount of the debt was due to payment insurance. After many calls and letters we received a partial refund (will this affect any future claim?) and although a letter was received stating a further, almost complete refund would be awarded when my sister remortgaged to try and get FirstPlus out of her life, they claimed a phone conversation offering a smaller refund made after the date of the letter but before it was received by my sister takes priority over the letter!!! How can word of mouth beat a letter?
I got junk mail from FirstPlus the other day and after removing any trace back to me returned it blank in the prepaid envelope, petty I know but it made me feel a bit better!!:beer:0 -
