Rubbish, they'll still have the records. They are trying to put you off.
going to send the letter of today and also got john to ring up about his 2 loans one was for about £3000 over 3years with RBS. and he knows he had ppi on that and the other for approxamatly £12000 over 5 years with the abbey national that he is sure he had ppi on but we dont know the amounts he was paying on each.
also going to check we arent paying it anywere else. heard alot about it being included in a mortgage with northrn rock so told him to ring and check.
we woorked out last night that if this goes our way we can get rid of most our debt and have a little holiday.back to comping in 2017, fingers crossed :beer:0 -
hi
i am new to this after only occuring bank charges once they stopped it. initially my husband didnt want to do this but i made him and it turns out from the calculator on here that we could potentially walk a way with £9000. we have 3 ppis we used to pay that we know about one from capital one and 2 bank loans.
so the letters are going of as soon as we work out what we are owed and fingers crossed it goes our way.
does anyone have any experiance with claiming from capital one? we had a snotty (on their behalf) phonecall with them today and they said send the letter and we will look into it. sounded promising though as they have already been fined.
our grounds for misselling are that it was added without us knowing and husband is in the RAF so hes never going to be out of work. are these ok?
thanks
I have been dealing with Capital One to reclaim Payment Protection Insurance, like you I received a type of get out letter from them where they
stated that - yes, we were fined by the FSA, but, due to a system error a
number of their account holders were sold PPI but were not sent the terms & conditions for PPI, therefore they wouldn't have been aware of the full restrictions and exclusions of the policy. But I wasn't one of those affected
so I wasn't contacted and therefore I would not be re-imbursed. Their letter
was their final response, therefore it is the Financial Ombudsman as the next step.
Incidentally, I had reason to argue with HBOS yesterday as they have had
since last September to repay Credit card insurance cover and they have been fobbing me off with letters telling me that I would get a reply in X weeks etc.,. I threatened FOS, there was almost a plea from them not to take that route as it costs the Bank money.
I would therefore strongly recommend that anyone faced with this dilemma
takes their case to the FOS.0 -
Hi
I got a loan out with HSBC last September and felt pressured into having the PPI, to the point where i felt they wouldnt give me the loan if i didnt have it.
Anyway, I am looking into claiming it back, has anyone done this with HSBC? Whats the address i need to send it to?
Thanks

I got a letter today from GE capitol about car finance i had with them. It states;
"I write further to our letter dated 17th Dec 2007 and I understand that your complaint is regarding the Payment Protection Premiums charged to your account.
Having checked your account details, I can confirm Payment was added on your account when we received your signed application form.
Due to recent press coverage regarding insurance regulations and GE Money being fined by the FSA you feel that you may have been miss-sold Payment Protection Insurance. The FSA fine, and the associated media coverage, however relates to policies purchased after 14th January 2005 when FSA's ICOB regulations came into force. As set out above, I note that your policy was set up prior to this date. As this is the case, the FSA's decision is not relevant.
We also offer a 30-day no-quibble guarantee where the product may be cancelled, and any premiums refunded (subject to no claim being made). This allows time to compare the policy to that of any other insurance companies. If you disagreed with the policy, this should not have been signed.
Whilst I appreciate that this may not be the outcome you were expecting, I trust that I have addressed all of the concerns that you raised. If you remain dissatisfied with our response you may refer the complaint to the Finance and Leasing Association. To do this you must refer the matter within six months from the date of this letter".

Hi, i didn't know about reclaiming PPI through Matin's site so i used one my husband found. They sent the cover letter (that you can probably download through this site) and my bank agreed to repay the PPI. When the site i used sent the bill i was horrified, they told me they charge 30% plus VAT on that. Can anyone tell me if this is right and i have to pay them that much, i was the one who sent the rest of the letters to my bank, not them?0

Plenty of unscrupulous people are trying to take advantage of this situation offering help reclaiming PPI when there really is no need.
Did you sign any kind of contract?{Signature removed by Forum Team}0 -

Plenty of people are/have reclaimed with HSBC. Read this thread and the success/failure thread.
I sent my letters to the branch I took the loan out with. They soon forwarded it to the relevant people.{Signature removed by Forum Team}0 -
Hi. Some of you may remember that I am trying to reclaim nearly £10,000 PPI from First Plus, sold as a single premium policy. After sending template letter they have replied saying they cannot uphold my complaint. They say this is because at the time they sent me a policy booklet which explained the policy (and that upon early settlement the refund would be partial), and that the figures were broken down to us over the phone.
To recap, we ended up paying £10k over and above our loan amount on PPI which we had no idea we had been sold ie no idea that we'd borrowed £10k more than our loan amount.
What do you think we should do now? Do I go to the Financial Ombudsman now, or send one more letter, saying that their reply is not acceptable, I want £10k refund and they have 7 days to reply. It will be 8 weeks from original complaint letter this Friday.
Any advice much appreciated.0 -
Help! I'm a fairly newbie at this and have looked through most of the forum but can't see anything about age in claiming loan protection.
I sent the template letters to Lloyds TSB in Nov. and have just received a fully reply.
I will be age 69 in April 2008 and took out a loan of £7,500 (age 65) in Sept.04 over 84 months and in March 06 (age 67) I took out another loan for £2,700 over 67 months, both with optional Loan Protection Ins.
In Lloyds reply they state: "I confirm the policy cover, depending on your age and circumstances, within the terms & conditions for:
Unemployment
Disability through accident or sickness
Critical illness cover
Life cover
Hospitalisation"
I did state that I had hypertension and cholesterol for both loans and I did sign the Optional Loan Protection purchase forms, so they are stating I was properly advised.
What I did state in my template letter to them was that I did not work and was over 65 when I took the loan out, also, that I was under the impression on both occasions that I was told that if I died the loans would be repaid in full but it seems to me that if it happened that way and the reason was anything to do with the heart, then it would not be the case.
They keep quoting "Lloyds TSB Personal Credit Agreement regulated by the Consumer Credit Act 1974" I can cancel Loan Prot. Ins. and a refund of part of my premium may be paid but an administration fee will apply. If I remain unhappy they can review the decision made using evidence available to them or they'd welcome any new evidence that I'm able to provide and if I wish to escalate this complaint their next step would be to provide a final response.
Can anyone help me regarding whether I should take this matter further or not, bearing in mind I was retired and my age when I took loans out.
Thanks for any help.0
