  • After successfully reclaiming back the PPI from my loans from HSBC, I decided to go after them regarding my Credit Card Payment Protection, I have received a reply from today stating that I need to contact the Insurance Company Norwich Union and not them. They also say that if I I had not opted out of the insurance at the time PPI would automaticaly be added, I never even signed for the card never mind opt out of anything, they just called me up at christmas time and asked if I wanted the Gold Card that was sitting on my account and of course at christmas time I never said no (stupidly) but I don't remember having any paperwork to sign, are they right in what they say that it has nothing to do with them, if so why dosn't it. Any advice would be gratefully received I have one success now I want another call me greedy but why not I could not have made a claim as I didn't work enough hours. Thank you for any advice you have.
Claimed back almost £4000 so far from HSBC for mis-sold PPI
£2083.00 + £242.00 8% interest from FirstPlus and lower monthly premiums:D Studio Cards paid off my account and gave me £125.00 in gift vouchers. £500.00 Barclays.

Hi - draw up your complaint to the Financial Ombudsman (see their web site), send it to HSBC as a 'courtesy' they'll make an offer within a week !!!

    I'm going round in circles.

Had a secured loan (since paid off) with company A in 2001 via a broker that had a lump sum PPI, we were don't remember any conversation re this but we did sign the form that had the lump sum amount on it. Having read this forum and noting the info that a lot of these PPI's only last for the first five years, I checked my paperwork and yup there was the clause. Was definately not told about that.

Anyhow, wrote the template letter to the loan company A who promptly wrote back to say that it's not there problem as the loan was sold by a broker and that I should contact them. So I wrote the same letter to the broker who is now (wasn't at the time) GE Money enclosing a copy of the original signed loan agreement. They've responded by saying that I had received the insurance paperwork and the onus was on me to read it !! So looks like a further letter is called for.

Any suggestions as to what my reply should state ??

    Thx in advance

I felt I had a case with my egg credit card because I couldn't actually remember if I'd ticked the box on the online application or not (in 2003), in any case they knew I was self employed.

They've responded by saying that I'd ticked the box and sent a copy of the online review, not the actual application which merely shows the fact that the cover is there, not that I'd ticked the box. They also go on to say that I'd had confirmatory documents and could have cancelled at any time etc etc.

Is it worth sending the 2nd template letter as I can't prove anything either way ?

Anyone have any views on this please..

    Thx

Apologies for bumping this back up but it's back a page so don't think people will see it there and I really want to be writing letters tomorrow as it's my day off. There's 2 different companies I need to write to, the Broker one (GE Money) is 5k plus so really want to get that back if possible.

    Thx
  • Hi fedupwiththeworry (that is hard to type without hitting the space bar), I would send the second letter, what do you have to loose, I am no expert and this is advice only but it can't do nay harm. Good Luck keep me posted.

  • I used the PPI template and sent the letter to LloydsTsb 2 weeks ago by recorded delivery which was signed for. I have not had a reply since and when I called to check it had been received no one will acknowledge its receipt. Should I wait a while longer or write in again? Is this a tactic the banks use to put people off claiming?

It depends, are you wanting to reclaim for mis selling or for having repaid the loan and the PPI. I would suggest going for the lump sum, but let me know and I'll be able to give you some tips on how to proceed

doesn't sound right to me - write and ask how it was calculated if you're still not happy go back to the ombudsman

Thanks tiggrae. I have referred the upheld complaint back to the FOS, they have acknowledged my concerns and have recalled the file to review the case.
  • First response have just offered me about a third of the total amount as a rebate for the remainder of my contract.( I pay approx £55 a month and have 18 months left, they offered me £325).I asked if they had added admin charges to it and was told no.I asked how it was calculated and they couldnt tell me.Is there any ballpark calculation for a rebate layed down by the FSA? Ive also disputed only being given a rebate from the cancellation date till end date and they want my dispute( i believe was misold) in writing .Thanks Tiggrae for your advice, Ive cancelled my ongoing ppi claim in order to try and get a full term rebate.
    Thanks again

  • Can anyone help with Kays catalogue (SDFS) have received letter saying they contacted me by telephone and I agreed to the Extra Care insurance charges. There is no way this is correct and they go on to say as I've been paying these charges since 1998 I could have cancelled them at any time. Unfortuneately as with everyone else I have only just realised I've been paying them since reading these articles. They say the FOS would not be interested so where do I go from here, do I get all my statements from them as with the bank charges, or is there some other way of getting the charges back - please help a annoyed pensioner
