Family of 5 where to go in October??

I am looking to take our 3 young children (8,6 and 4) abroad for the first time (have only taken the 2 eldest before) but am struggling to come up with anything suitable.
Looking to go in the middle of October somewhere sunny so they could go swimming and hopefully enjoy a beach nearby. Would also ideally like there to be the chance of other children for them to play with but in all the complexes I have looked at we would need to take 2 rooms - hence my husband in one room with say 1 child and me in another with 2 of the children. Am I missing something here / looking in the wrong places?
Only other criteria is I am not that keen to fly further than say 3 hours / 3.5 hours from and airport in northern England e.g. Manchester. Any suggestions of where to take the children (location) where to stay would be very helpful - thanks! I am getting dejected. One final point my parents may wish to join us at the last minute (health permitting) so have even considered renting a 3 / 4 bedroom apartment with access to a shared pool but not found one that wasn't private - still keen to have other children around.

October can be unpredictable - weather wise - within your stated max flying time.
We fly quite often to the Canaries from Newcastle and it usually takes around 4 hours, the benefit is that the weather is far more predictable.
EDIT: Parque Santiago 4 in Playa de las Americas, Tenerife have some 3 bedroom apartments.
Quite a nice complex too.Change is inevitable, except from a vending machine.0 -

Although the Canaries might be considered to have more reliable weather in October, the weather in the Balearics can be surprisingly good. I know that last October, it was red hot there. Yes, you do take more of a chance, but the much shorter flight time is a definite plus. Look at Santa Eulalia in Ibiza, which is a very family friendly place. The main tour operators have a range of self catering options there.0

Ibiza is very nice, it's not all bangin' toons and foam parties (whatever they are)
It is however a bit more expensive for food and drinks in restaurants, when compared to mainland Spain or the Canaries. I was there last year and I reckon the bars and restaurants on the whole are similar prices to the UK. So if you plan to eat out a lot, don't forget to factor that in.Change is inevitable, except from a vending machine.0 -
Can you go late August, more possibilities and better weather?Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0

No - the children start back at school in mid August in Scotland and my husband teaches over the Scottish school holidays so was hoping to make use of the week they have off school in October - it seems to be much, much cheaper to fly from an English airport (I am talking hundreds of £'s).0

That's because our half term is usually the last week and the prices that week jump up. You're traveling during our term time, hence the difference. I bet last week of October is cheaper from the Scottish airports than the English ones?0
