Which dates in October can you fly?
Is the maximum stay 7 nights?
What is the earliest time you can be at the airport for?

School finishes on Friday 9th October - earliest at say Manchester would be 8p.m. that evening and school starts on Monday 19th October. Happy to go any time between these times.

You might be right that it may be cheaper coming to a Scottish airport (Glasgow or Edinburgh) at the end of October to fly when it is the English school holidays as our children are all back in school then I believe.

A longer flight I know, but have you considered Egypt? Fantastic weather at that time of year and there are plenty of hotels with their own water parks and All Inclusive too.

Don't underestimate the M6 in Lancashire on a Friday afternoon
You probably would be OK for 8pm - leaving after school - but it could be awfully tight.
Change is inevitable, except from a vending machine.

Very good point - I was half hoping to leave at lunch-time to give us time for breaks - I hadn't thought of the Friday traffic. I would love to go to Egypt (never been) but think it is slightly too far with the 3 children (4 if you have a husband who hates flying - LOL).

    Yes - half-term in Scotland

I did wonder. As others have said it may be best to avoid Scotland in Scotland HT dates and use the Scottish to the English advantage, IFSWIM. What about Dubai?

Edit, just seen your flight time...

Turkey :-) 4 hours but if you want good weather you have a better chance the further south you fly. It could be fine in the Balearics or it could be cloudy, there is a risk involved

M6 coming south to Manchester is never that busy till you get close to Manchester. M61/j30. For the airport its best at that time down to the m56 and in. And yes in late August or English half term it's cheaper to fly from Scotland. Saved 600 on flights to Spain in August and 300 in October from Edi to Rome.

As for you how about Malta not too bad in October.

Malta is lovely in October but not very beachy; Majorca can be nice too - warm without being unbearably hot

I've done the balericks in October, too cold for sea or pools!

I would do eastern med. Southern Greek Islands, Cyprus or Turkey.

If you want red hot :-) the Red Sea :-)
