Heel gets stuck to car mat when lifting foot off clutch

I have recently purchased an Alfa Romeo. The car mat has an extra bit of mat sewn onto it near the clutch. Sometime when I lift my foot off the clutch the heel of my shoe gets stuck against the edge of it.
It is the original car mat, I have no idea what purpose this extra bit of mat is suppose to serve. Anyone has any ideas?

Thanks

It's a heel pad. Specifically designed for your heels to be on.

stop trying to drive in stiletto heels then, the extra bit is to protect the mat and stop it wearing in a high use area

I'm surprised it's not a common problem because it's quite frustrating. It happens with my formal work shoes and trainers.

Looks like the insurance company may sort that for you.

Have you tried cleaning the mats? Maybe someone walked something into it?

  • Given that in your other post, you consider your car to be a likely write off, I presume you won't have the problem with the sticky mat any more???

The mat is clean, its the edge where its been sewn onto the mat that the shoe gets stuck against.

    It's a new car that I've purchased.

will the mat move a bit?

pull it back towards the seat base so that your heel is on the pad rather than the edge of it

That was going to be my advise, alternatively replace the mat, I have had several car mats with the heel pad and never had a problem.

    Are we talking stilletos

Italian cars used to be notorious for having non-ergonomic seating/control arragements. Autocar (in the 80s) regularly referred to the "Italian Standard Ape", for whom the cars were designed (long arms, short legs), and to the cramped and/or offset pedals.

    Nothing seems to have changed.
