Car involved in accident - insurance company wrongly blaming me
Options
Hi everyone,
The other day whilst I was driving down a country road, my car slid across the road, spun and hit the bush on the side. I do not quite know how the car slid but my tire had burst so I don't know whether this is what caused it. No other cars were involved and nobody was injured. I have submitted a claim and my car is likely written off. Now the insurance company has sent me a document saying that they believe I am to blame for the incident and will therefore lose my no claim bonus. I have no idea how they would come up with that conclusion. Is there any way I could challenge this and it is worth doing so?
Thanks

I thought if you made a claim on your own insurance then you'd lose (part of) your no claims discount anyway? (Especially if there's no 3rd party to recover from).0

Is this serious?
You were the only one involved so who else is there to blame?0 -
Unless you are able to prove that another party was responsible for your accident (such as a farmer leaving large amounts of wet mud on the road or someone else spilling diesel or other oil), and your insurers are able to claim from them then you will be claiming from your own insurance policy, hence you will lose some or all of your no claims bonus.
Even if the accident was the result of something totally unavoidable such as a tyre blow out, you will still be making a claim on your policy and this will affect your NCB (unless it's protected).
Don't forget that it's a no claims bonus/discount. Not a no fault discount.0 -

I was the only one there but I believe the car slid due to factors out of my hands (i.e. car tyre bursting).
Will it make any difference whether or not I'm blamed? Will it affect my NCD regardless? How about my future premium, will it be affected on whether I was responsible or not?0 -

The clue is in the name
No Claims Discount
Blame doesn't really come into it unless the insurance company can make a full recovery from someone else.0 -
I think you should make a claim against your car.0

If you claim and it's not protected you'll lose some/all of your bonus.
You will need to declare an at fault accident so expect your premium to rise.
As there is no one else to blame, the blame is all yours.0
