I'm not sure lucky-I think I've become more aware of what I'm spending.

i always liked overpaying and getting the mortgage down but now I think I'm a bit more obsessive about it!!!!

I like skipping things like coffees and lunches and seeing all the small amounts add up to £100 mortgage overpayment that saves me £20.

    What about you?

Ya i know it does keep you on track on here

Personally i enjoy having a target in mind like 60k or under before the year is out as it keeps me from going to but a car i dont actually need or anything else which is what you need a bit of control i guess

iv always enjoyed saveing tho and still do to this day ever since i was young

Yeh I like having a target and tracking it so this is great for seeing how far you've come. I have to say though, that this forum makes me a bit obsessive and thinking about money all the time, which I don't like. I want to get to the point where I've changed bad habits like coffee trips and then it all just becomes the norm. Small changes make such a massive difference. If it was easy everyone would be taking part in the mortgage free challenge. It's hard to think of the end goal when it's such s long road!

My plans could all change depending on job situation soon too! I've saved £10 this week by skipping coffees and making my own lunches and made £4 on eBay. Slowly slowly catchy monkey!!!!

You're right, for the long term, the savings need to become the norm - but that still leaves room for consciously thought out treats - its just that they shouldn't be automatic, I think. That's why a lot of people have a treats budget.

Maybe your right- I should have a treats budget or even take out a weekly amount I don't go over.

It's so hard to keep motivated!!!

Brought lunch today so that's another £4 moved to my account that I pay off mortgage with.

Kids off to rugby camp £50 down but cheaper than normal holiday club, so actually £70 up.

    Oh it does get complicated!!

defiantly have a treats budget work out how much youd normally spend on treats and half it and have them every other day or something :]

life is for living after all no good not enjoying the moment now

i don't give myself a treats budget but i defiantly have a few treats a week if it got to the point where i couldn't save for op and have treats the treats would go tho

any plans this week fire ?

Well, kids back to school this week!!! I've been off work so saved all bus fares and lunch at home.

Missing my crazy boys! So free fun at the Edinburgh festival again this weekend. Last weekend was great! Wander up the royal mile and saw lots of snippets of shows.

    Great fun!

I'm looking at the idea of becoming mortgage neutral. I have been putting my stocks and shares savings into calculators with a 3% and 5% return over the next 10 years.

    No wonder I can't sleep!!!!

Hoping to be mortgage neutral in 2022. 7 years will fly in and I'll be 42. Wonder if my estimation will be accurate. I think I'll add to my signature so I can see later!
