Is working from home just a big doss really?

I currently have the worst of both worlds - I travel to an office, but I'm the only one there (literally the only person in the whole building). I have the isolation, but without the benefit of being able to watch Homes under the Hammer :rotfl:.
Whenever I have worked from home I find I get far more done. It just seems to make my life more efficient.0 -
I work from home when I don't want to be distracted or run out of time to finish a job "at work".
Or is that just working at home?0 -
I'm meant to be working now instead of surfing the forums...oops.What's yours is mine and what's mine is mine..0

I have been a homeworker for 12 years and it suits my family situation (husband travels a fair bit) but it certainly isn't right for everyone. I have an office at the bottom of the garden so I do 'go to work'. I used to work in the house but I did get sucked in to putting on a load of washing or something. Now there is none of that.
I work in IT so am as effective as those in the office - and I spend a fair amount of time on calls with clients or colleagues in other locations anyway. I do occasionally go to one of offices but one is a horrible journey which can take 1 1/2 hours to do less than 30 miles and the other requires an overnight stay in a hotel. At least any travel can be done in work time and is all fully expensed.
Some people thrive on personal contact and social interactions at work whereas I struggle in noisy offices to filter out all the distractions. Horses for courses.
I get paid a 'homeworker allowance' which nominally covers increases in bills due to use of my home for work but it hasn't gone up in 12 years so it doesn't exactly cover it any more!I’m a Senior Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Pensions, Annuities & Retirement Planning, Loans

I tend to work longer hours at home, and love a 15 second commute and the lack of office politics.
I did have one very cushy work at home contract where I could actually deliver a days work in less than two hours, that was great for as long as it lasted.0 -
Can I be nosy and ask what jobs all you home workers do please?
I would LOVE to work from home.0 -
I've been working from home for 4 years now.. I miss seeing people! I get out to see clients about once a fortnight, but I do miss human interaction. I don't miss paying thousands of pounds to commute into London though.
As long as you do certain things (e.g. GET DRESSED IN THE MORNING!) then you can be fairly productive; probably more than people in an office environment can be.
Downside: Endless conference calls. I'm about to start my 4th of the morning in a few minutes

For nosy nicegirl - I'm a healthcare IT consultant. IT is a common job to find 'working from home' roles; and they usually pay really well too0 -
I do just as much if not more when I stay in pajamas!
