Do you switch your router/internet off at night?

Then you have to give me a technical explanation of this phenomenon. This is the first time I hear it.
.
I didn't need to -others have already done so ........and I don't "have to" anyway !
Just because you hadn't heard of it before doesn't mean it isn't correct or that you needed to be rude !I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole
MSE Florida wedding .....no problem0 -
How could you possibly justify this statement? This is hilarious!
Quite correct if you do switch on and off quickly (once a minute) you will see a service degradation.
On the original subject - over night does not matter, though the BBC iplayer alarm app does not play the selected station if your broadband is off.Do you want your money back, and a bit more, search for 'money claim online' - They don't like it up 'em Captain Mainwaring0 -
We never switch it off. Like to use internet in bed.0

No i dont. I dont switch my fridge off either..Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..0

I do not switch my router off because:
1. i can't be bothered
2. i couldn't get to the socket
3. I'd have to switch it back on againNever put off till tomorrow what you can do today!
Cos if you do it today and like it...You can do it again tomorrow..

I have personally seen an internet connection speed up after a couple of days when the router was left on overnight instead of always being switched off. It can happen.Always, without any ill-effects whatsoever, people who say otherwise are unlikely to have tested it.
Can or could have ill-effects is not does. Regularly is an equally vague and meaningless term which provides no useful information to the reader, it could mean every millisecond, every year, every decade.0 -
There's another reason not to turn your router on/off every day..............
ITS BLOODY ANNOYING when you come back from work and can't get a stable connection because the ****ing idiot next door is now on the same WiFi channel (having turned their router off/on).
I had this happening 3 - 4 times a week, with 3 different neighbours ALL doing the same thing.
TBH I got sick of it and ended up running cat5 cable under my carpets and up through the floor into my office upstairs. I need my internet to remain stable 24/7, even when i'm not at home.
As for the other point mentioned, yes it's true, it can screw up your sync speeds...... Your bRAS profile will drop and sometimes it can stick that way permanently (until reset by your ISP).
Also, whether it does or not (speaking hypothetically), if you keep turning it on/off, it's just one more thing that could delay getting your broadband fixed if it goes down, as "tech support" will try everything to blame you for the problem.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

This is quite correct, but just to correct a point made earlier in this thread.
It is not your ISP that will turn your speed down if a number of disconnections are observed. Rather, it is the automated exchange equipment that will make this reduction. Also, as has previously been said, once the line returns to what the exchange considers stable, the speed _should_ start to increase back to the original level.0 -
^^ It can take many weeks, anything up to about 6 weeks.
But as I said, sometimes it can get stuck and needs resetting remotely by the ISP.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

Modern routers like the VM and BT hubs can actually use quite a bit of energy.Changing the world, one sarcastic comment at a time.0
