Insurance help

Hi,

Need some help regarding my travel insurance. My laptop (macbook air) got badly damaged on holiday and luckily I have business cover. I put the claim to AXA for the full cost of repairs £912.00 however they have paid out only £500. As i'm at work today i'm not able to speak to them until tomorrow afternoon, however I was just wondering is this the correct amount. In the policy wording, it does state that there is a limit of £500 for any item pair or set but then says up to a limit of £1000 for computer equipment....
What you are covered for:
We will pay:
1. up to £1,500 per trip for the loss, theft of, or damage to your business equipment:
a) up to a limit of £500 for any one item, pair or set;
b) up to a limit of £1,000 for computer equipment;
c) up to a limit of £500 for business samples.

I've never had to claim on insurance before so I was just wondering is what they say correct?

    Insurers will always try and pay the least amount they think that they can get away with. As you say, there is specific mention of there being a £1k limit to damaged computer items and so you should pursue this with them.

    However, it might be that although there is a £1k limit on computer damage it may be the case that somewhere in the policy it makes mention of some excess amount?

    But, there is certainly no harm in you contacting them if you feel unhappy at the level of compensation for your loss. If you did contact them they would explain any excesses and how any such excess came into play with your own claim.

    Hi, thanks for the quick reply! I will get in touch with them tomorrow. I paid for an 'excess waiver' so there is no excess to pay. I was just confused about the £500 single item limit, yet the contradictory £1000 computer equipment limit!

    In that case it sounds to me like they may have some explaining to do!

    I'm not familiar with their wording but it sounds like a £500 single article limit and an overall limit of £1000 for computer equipment.

    Yes that sounds right, and with a total payout not exceeding £1500.

    So it looks like a £500 payout is correct.

    No, I wouldn't say so because there is a specific £1000 limit for loss/damage/theft to computer equipment.

    So there could be a claim for £1k on computer equipment plus say another amount upto £500 for "business samples".

    But with a single item limit of £500.

    Ah yes I see what you mean. The wording is a little ambiguous, but yes, you could read it that way, and they probably have.

    Hmmm.. Do you think its worth fighting for seeing is the wording is very ambiguous?
