Hello and welcome back, another poster has pointed me in your direction. Im glad all is well with you and your family, its lovely to catch up :
One of the reasons i was given a link to your diary was because i was thinking of starting to sell clothes online. Feel free to tell me to mind my own business but i wondered how you had got on with it?

It's safe to say that Shetland was completely staggering beautifully amazing! I am absolutely in love with the place and already planning my return trip. I'm struggling like mad to get used to city life again and have actually been feeling very low - hence the gap in posting. We really had a great time and it has done us all so much good to have this pause in our lives.
Shetland is far more beautiful than I ever imagined it would be. I was expecting dramatic seascapes and big skies but I wasn't prepared for the wildflowers, the birds, the geology... I'm not even especially interested in these things usually but they were remarkable. The thing I was least expecting though was the quality of the air and it's one of the things I'm finding it hardest to get used to being back. I had no idea the air quality was so poor around here and it's really put me off the place.
I told a fib to the lads and said there was no wifi at all so we had a completely relaxed, unplugged time. Our relationships have all been enriched because of this not least mine and DH's but pleasingly also DS1 and DS2's. I sound like I've been employed by their tourist board but there really was something for everyone up there and given that our children range from nearly 2 to nearly 18 that's pretty impressive. It also has the advantage of feeling really far away (er, because it is...) while still being in the UK so there's no hassle with currency or language or cultural differences (I'm not as adventurous as I was pre little ones and I really needed to chill out).
The question here has inevitably turned to what on earth we are doing bringing our kids up in such a dirty and noisy place as this when so many of the things we strive for could just be achieved by moving out of the city. I don't doubt for a single second that life up there can be really really tough but it's not always that much fun here shouting over the noise and breathing in fumes. House prices are much cheaper up there too so FIRE would potentially be much closer too. DH grew up by the sea and really wants to return so we've got lots to think about and plans to hatch. Couldn't move until DS1 finishes year 13 but after that we could.
We both keep finding ourselves going online just to look at pictures of the islands. This evening I've found a plot of land for £32,000. Planning Permission expired but in an area where building is being agreed to apparently. £32k, it's hardly anything. Yes, I know we'd have to pay loads for amenities to be connected not to mention actually building anything but just imagine....
Meanwhile back on Planet Earth tuition is up and running again, some swine on eBbbbbay gave negative feedback without even contacting us and their only comment was a full stop, the declutter fairies didn't visit, the mortgage still exists and so the tedium continues. Ho hum

Hi Newgirly,
Yes, we sell clothes on Eeeebya and it's going okay although still feels like fairly early days. We have c£6k invested in stock which earns us around £500pm profit. I buy from UK wholesalers mostly (just google, they're not secret). It's been a fairly steep learning curve as I'd never actually bought or sold anything online before so it was a bit daft to do really but I have a friend who makes proper money doing it and she's guided me. I tend to buy stuff that I would wear or I'd buy for my kids with the aim that that will give the shop some sort of cohesive identity. I sell tons of underwear but I'm working really hard at pushing the higher value items but that seems to be harder to get right. I've some stuff that sells really well and other stuff that really doesn't and I'm not fully sure of the reasons for the difference. Feel free to ask me any questions. As I said, I am a bit of a movice really but I'll do my best to help where I can

Glad you had a great holiday. Are you allowed to give us directions to your shop?
Paid off mortgage nine years early in 2013. Now picking and choosing our work to fit in with the rest of our lives!
Still thrifty though, after all these years:D

Before you make too many plans I suggest you factor in a quick winter trip - not to witness the cold, rain etc, but the lack of daylight hours. I couldn't bear that .
Sounds fabulous though :T.
A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort

Many thanks for the reply, last time we bought clothes to sell it was a case oc drive to commercial road iondon and buy from who will let you, i supoose its easier nowbutwith much more competition. If you dont mind another cheeky question ,do you think its worth starting with just a couple of lines now (as finances allow), or wait a while until we have more cash to carry a bit more?
Glad you had a great holiday, sound like you have a case of the holiday blues now though, would it help to plan another trip?

Seriously I've got a Norwegian friend and it's the lack of daylight that gets to people. They find it very depressing.
