No bath

My friend had a house with no bath, and she used to put a paddling pool in the bottom of her shower for her toddler. No worries about storing a large pot/tub and cheap to replace if it got broken.

    .

Now that's just given me an idea:). The only reason I personally would like a bath as well as a shower is from the pov of "natural" health care - ie using a bath for hydrotherapy purposes. Now thinking a childs paddling pool might fulfil much the same function as a sitz bath.
  • We're in the middle of doing up our bathroom and plan on taking out the bath - have used it about 20 times in the last 20 years.

Depends on yourself and circumstances I guess.

Me personally, as a singleton with no kids, If I was viewing property I would take an amazing walk in shower over a tub any day.

Have you found out how much it would cost to get a bath put in, and estimated how long before you could afford it? Baths themselves don't have to be expensive; whether you could fit one in without major rearrangement would be the main problem financially.

Don't worry about what other people prefer; you are buying this house to live in yourselves; not to sell on (for a while). Anyway, one of the most important things when it comes to appealing to buyers is the ability to have a bath or shower they prefer - deal-breakers are when something you want isn't possible.

I would never buy a house that doesn't have the possibilty of putting in a bath. There is nothing better than finishing a hard day at work, running a bubble bath, putting some youtube/tv on the laptop and having a nice soak. Can't really do that in a shower...
  • I have a bathroom and a shower room. The bath was only used once in 9 years. All depends on you and your family though :)

Our son reached the age of 5 only using a baby bath filled by a shower - previous house had no bath. But it was getting a tight squeeze and he worked out that he could tip it over quite easily. Fortunately we've now moved to a house with a bath so he can stretch out.

OP, it depends on the house/area. If it's a family house, then it will need a bath to sell on easily; if it's a trendy modern design with tiny rooms intended for a professional singleton/couple, then a walk-in shower is probably preferred. As Bossypants suggested, buy it and then put in a bath when you can afford it.

I don't have baths but I have a nipper and would only buy house with a bath. It would only be a huge deal breaker if I could not install one though. House would have to be perfect in all other aspects.

Gosh I can't quite believe your baby is 5 Tigsteroonie..seems like yesterday he was born. On the bath front we have 2 one in the family bathroom and one in our en-suite which has Jacuzzi, if I could swap it for a walk in shower I would I don't use the bath just the shower over the bath.
